I’m a junior with a 2.5 gpa in CA. First semester I got 1 F and a D. I’m making those up already but do I have a chance to raise up the 2.5 to a 3.0 before I graduate? I really wanna graduate with honors and get into a UC! Sometimes I feel like a failure because of my low gpa. I feel like a disappointment to my parents. I have many extra curriculums such as leadership, boys and girls club, magnet senate, I do volleyball, cross country, swim, hope club, and I do Lacc upward bound.
You only have the rest of Junior year to get your UC GPA up to the minimum UC GPA of 3.0 to qualify to apply. Senior year grades are not used in the UC GPA calculation.
I suggest you calculate your current UC GPA (10-11th grades only) so far to see what you need to get to that 3.0.
Even if you get to that minimum of 3.0, chances are low except for probably UC Merced. Right now just work on your GPA and look into some test prep for SAT/ACT. There are many Cal states that would be within your reach if you can get your GPA up plus there is always the TAG option for CC transfers to the UC’s.
What about for Cal states? Such as East Bay, San Francisco State, Humboldt? Will a 2.5 be enough?
Really put your best effort into your remaining classes. A lot of the CSU’s can be really forgiving in terms of who they let in and you can do it, but you have to try your best at getting your grades up. AP classes can help and doing well on your SAT or ACT can also really help. I know the CSU’s use an eligibility index to calculate whether or not they will accept you and the score they give is based on your tests as well as overall GPA. So there is still hope!
Cal states base their acceptances on your CSU/UC GPA and your SAT/ACT scores. At the end of Junior year, you can calculate your Eligibility index (EI) which is what they use to rank applicants by major.
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+ CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10).
East Bay is non-impacted CSU campus so you usually need only the minimum EI to gain admission which is 2900 SAT or 684 ACT. Humboldt and SFSU will be more dependent upon your intended major. Impacted majors require higher EI’s than non-impacted majors. Here is a link the CSU campuses and their impacted majors.

You also will priority at your local CSU, so here is a link to determine your local in-service area CSU. You should look at other non-impacted CSU’s campuses such as Stanislaus, Bakersfield and Channel Islands. Once you determine your EI, more suggestions can be made.
