So, I was wondering:

a.) What are my chances of being admitted to WFU?
b.) What can I do to improve my chances of being admitted to WFU?

Hard to tell, what type of classes are you taking? Any AP? You ECs look good
Anticipated SAT is not good, but you are not required to send at WF
my recommendations are to keep on as Pres of German Club
This summer why not get an SAT or ACT work book and practice, practice, practice?
Also, since you cannot find a job, why not put in some significant time volunteering in your community? I know our local agencies that work with the truely down and out (soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc) are really needing more volunteers. Good luck!!

Just verifying, the 1300’s SAT score is out 1600, is this still bad? Regardless, I will certainly get a head start on SAT and ACT prep.

And I am actually volunteering as a coach for a youth foortball team in the community which is about 100 a year.

Also, is my GPA too low? Obviously, I’m going to do everything I can to raise it this upcoming year, but this won’t immediately remove me from consideration, will it?

What’s your rank? Is that an unweighted or weighted GPA? If that’s weighted, then I’d venture and say that’s pretty low. If unweighted, I think you would be fine for ED, but for RD, I would say it’s on the lower-end but not a deal-breaker

Most rigorous courses in a private school taking honors and 6 AP classes
School does not rank. 3.77 GPA

Student government 4 years School newspaper 3 years

Varsity captain in two sports earning 12 varsity letters in 3 sports, 3 MVP awards, 2 individual conference championships and All-Conference a total of 8 times in three sports. The only 3 sport female athlete for all 4 years in graduating class.

Recognized as the school’s outstanding senior student/athlete and given a state-wide student/athlete award.

Twice advancing to state music competitions playing oboe.

A number of community service activities and volunteer activities.

Your grades and scores certainly aren’t bad, but I’ll bite and be brutally honest.
You are a white male who goes to a private school in Maryland, that is a knock against you to begin with. Do you have any AP classes? Your grades and scores are just okay, unless you can get your scores up and your GPA has been trending upwards. Your EC’s are okay, but just pretty average for Wake Forest. I would say, work on your essays (yes they have that many because they are important) and try to get your SATs up. Wake Forest is a reach for you.
Some schools I would also consider: Villanova, Elon, Richmond

Actually, the “knock” would be if OP were a white female. I read an article that WFU is one of those schools where it’s more difficult for women to get in than it is for men.

OP, your GPA is a little low. And have you taken any AP’s?

Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who applied 3391
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who were admitted 1436
Acceptance Rate = 42.3%
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) women who applied 3786
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) women who were admitted 1605
Acceptance Rate = 42.3%

This is for the 2007-2008 admission cycle, so the admit rate is quite a bit lower now. That cycle, they had about 7000 applicants, this last cycle they had over 10,000.

As I said, I read it in an article about gender differences in acceptance rates. Could have been based on data from several years ago? But, the data you cite above doesn’t support your statement, either – that as a white male, it’s harder to get into Wake – since the acceptance rate is the same for men and women.

CBBBlinker. I never stated that it’s harder to get in as a male than as a female. I simply said I disagreed with this:

I believe that there is not a gender-bias for Wake’s admission. I mean, there is a bit more girls applying than guys but it’s not as imbalanced as say W&M’s applicant pool.
