sigh...

take the SAT over again, why wouldn't you? While your CR and writing scores are quite good, your math is very below the math scores that you'll see in the rest of the applicant pool. While many people are probably going to (and probably have) tell you that you don't need to because you're Mexican with a legacy, I'd suggest you do it anyhow because you never know, and also because if this was your first attempt, why not try again? Your ECs are pretty bare as well. If you didn't have a legacy and weren't Mexican American, I'd pretty confidently say that you have no chance. However, I think that if you raise you math SAT about 60 points so that you're at least in the 1400 range, you have a quite good chance. Good luck. ;)

well, as a native american / african american and also a legacy i know from first hand experience that Harvard does not give a hoot about SAT's as long as you are a monority that can read.

um, Harvard cares a lot about SATs for white people at least. I know this kid who got a 1600 on the SAT (when it was out of 1600), went to jail during his senior year in hs, and got into Harvard. Harvard knew he was in jail, btw, they let him in because he got a 1600.

ummm... harvard rejects many 1600 applicants
and to say that harvard doesn't care about SATs for minorities is completely bogus

I agree you need to raise your math score, but you have a lot of college credits as a plus. Though I'm not quite sure how much weight CS training carries.

you have a chance. just improve the math score. you are so lucky you are a mexican-american

I don't know what to do, I've taken the test several times and for whatever reason my Math score doesn't budge!

My verbal skills are okay...I'm upset that I didn't get an 800 in Verbal or Writing...

I'm not sure if this will change anything, but next year my friend and I will start the GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) at my private school. It is something we have been wanting to for the past year; however, our proposal was shot down last year. Luckily, we've become good friends with the Student Activities director

I also plan on starting the Campus Greens at my school, it just took a while because I needed support. Sophomore year I didn't have much support because most people saw me as a Animal Rights zealot when I protested against dissections (I lost 5%-10% of my grade) , and refused to comply with our school's dress code which requires that we wear leather belts. My Junior year was spent participating in several clubs including the Social Awareness club (Socialist Club) and Creative Writing club which gave me the opportunity to write a nihilistic piece (at a Catholic school)...

I think I finally have the respect and support necessary to start such a club for my school's progressive youth...I've also contacted the Green Party about establishing a branch at my school in order to educate the general youth populace...

That's definitely something you could focus on in your essays. I am co-president of the GLBT support group at my public school, and it was something i focused on in one of mine.

That's funny because when I took honours prin bio II last semester at UNT, if I had protested against dissections I would have recieved an automatic C in the lab.

But I think you have 2 great essay topics here...

haha, one of the teachers actually told me that he'd fail me if I protested in his class.

They were hoping to deter me by giving me a F for my Lab Grade, but I had high grades in the other sections and Labs weren't worth that much so I got an A...a real low A.....like 90%...

anyway, I still showed them that they can't be tyrants...
I attempted to setup something for the following year so that something similar wouldn't happen and they answered by putting in the student handbook that those who don't do dissections will automatically fail.

well at UNT the lab section is a separate course, and disections are a large percentage of that grade... and I couldn't handle a C or D on my transcript...

anyway,
you said that you've taken the SAT many times and your score won't budge? what kind of prep are you doing before each test? I bought a $20 prep book for the new SAT and my CR went up 70 pts from the last verbal I had taken.

I took the Kaplan class and my score actually decreased!
My Math went from 680 to 600, and my Writing from 800 to 780.
IM me at lovedolls88 if you have AIM....

at one point in that class I actually missed like 2 questions on the Math section...eh

Have you tried taking a Math SAT II? If you can break 700 on that, it would go a long way toward making up for the SAT I score.</p>

What are your math grades like? Have you taken honors/AP/calculus-level classes?

Math is my worst subject....I get A's, but I haven't taken AP courses in it.
