Hey, so I applied to UIUC and submitted my app on November 29th before the December 1st deadline. I was wondering if I have any chance based off of these stats.
Residency- Illinois In-state resident
ACT- 27 (Eng-26 Math-33 Reading-22(yucky I know) Science-25)
Unweighted GPA- 3.6
Weighted GPA- 3.9
Class Rank- 88/676 So 87th percentile
My GPA has an upward trend from 3.6 to 3.75 to 3.9 Weighted
Major: Chemistry
Honors/AP classes taken: Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, Honors Political Science, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Chemistry, Honors Physics, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and Honors Humanities.
Extra Curriculars: Marching Band 4 years, pep band and jazz band for 2 years, National Honor Society 1 year, Science National Honor Society 1 year, and Tri-M Music National Honor Society 1 year.
Had a job at a grocery store for 2 months, but quit due to time issues.
I have been committed to concert band for all 4 years, and I have performed at all state and national performances with my band.
I also have been on Honor roll/High Honor roll every semester possible.
I would also like to add more information just cuz. It really doesnt have anything to do with my admission chances, I mean maybe a little.
I have already been accepted to the following schools: University of Missouri (Mizzou), University of Iowa, Indiana University Bloomington, and University of Minnesota Twin-Cities.
Mizzou- Total backup, but I would go there if I had to.
Iowa- I would consider Iowa a backup, but I would be really happy there, I just have plently of other schools I would rather go to
Indiana- OMG I fell in love with this school the minute I arrived, I would LOOOOVVEE to go here, but it is SOOO Expensive, and my family is not rich. If I had the money, I would have already commited here and it would be my top choice.
Minnesota- This is currently my top choice, and I would be very happy here! I think as of now, based on where I have gotten into, this will most likely be where I go :)
Okay, so even though I am content with all of my colleges so far, UIUC is an In-State school and very good overall. Going there would be financially the best, and if I get accepted I will have a tough decision ahead.
I also would like to add that I also applied to UW Madison, but since I am out of state and my stats are lower for them, I will not very likely end up going there, however it is still on my list and I know I would love it there. But we will just have to see.
SO in the end, do you think I have a chance for UIUC. And I have also heard that they give a slight preference to in-state applicants. Based on my stats do you think I can get in???

Wow we have very similar stats and school choices! I personally didn’t apply to UIUC, but my friend got into UIUC for biochem, so you have a very good chance imo.

How much are your other schools going to cost you?

This is without Financial Aid and only based off of scholarships
Mizzou- 28K
Iowa-33K
Minnesota- 31K
Indiana- 42K haha
I dont have clarification on scholarships for UIUC or UW Madison yet, so at full price they are
UIUC- 28K
UW madison- 38K
And also what were the stats like for your biochem friend that got accepted? And do you think I have any chance at UIUC?

Bump.

They had a 28ACT, 3.4UW, 4.3W and decent ecs. What’s your parents’ income? How much need based aid do you think you’re getting? Bc those schools are gonna be pretty expensive with no more aid.

I have no idea about any of my parents financial situations lol, except that we definitely arent rich. And my stats seem pretty similar to your accepted friend, so yay!

Bump.

Bump.

Bump!!!

I am also from Illinois and applying to UIUC. Last year, three kids did not get in from my school with 30+ ACT scores (one with a 34). Illinois got a very small number of applicants this year, however, so it will be easier to get in. I would say that U of I is a high match for you and UW Madison is a low reach. On a different note, I just want to advise you to look into the pricing you stated above. From Illinois’s website, total costs range from $30,000-$35,000 for in-state applicants, and Illinois is FAMOUS for terrible financial aid and scholarships. On the contrary, Minnesota is an estimated $32,000 for out-of-state applicants, and they give great financial aid and scholarships. Illinois is no bargain just because of being in-state. Proof of my assertions: In the past few weeks, I’ve received admission to the Minnesota Honors Program and 10k per year of scholarships. It would be a pipe dream to receive this at Illinois.

I think you have a great chance of getting into U of I, however, have you looked into possibly applying undecided and going into chemistry later? I think it would give you an even better chance of acceptance

That is very good to hear about U of I not getting many apps, because if I get into U of I, then I most likely will cut off all of my backup schools, and then bring it down to Minnesota and Illinois. I also did consider going undecided, but I think U of I automatically considers anyone for going undecided if they dont seems set on their major based on what is in the application. And thank you guys for responding, and I hope you are both correct about me getting admitted into U of I
I’d say you have a 70% chance. And it is indeed one of the most expensive in-state schools so I have to agree with others who are saying it is no bargain. Some out of state public schools may cost you the same as Illinois.
You’re also right that if they don’t think your are competitive enough for your first choice major, they’ll still consider admitting you to the university as a whole, undecided.
I also applied to UIUC as an in state applicant with a 30 ACT and almost the exact same GPA as you. Good luck!
(I also got accepted to Indiana and Iowa, and applied to Wisconsin but haven’t heard back yet)
Thats awesome dude, good luck to you! And a 70% chance isnt too bad. And minnesota is nearly the same out of state price as Illinois in state. I still hope though that I get into UIUC. One more thing, I also havent heard back from wisconsin yet, and I am dying to know if I got in!
That math score is solid, I’m usually good at math but I got 29 math, 34 science, english 33, writing 33 and I’ve gotten into UW Madison so far. As for UIUC I think you have a good chance, since you live in-state and your math score is pretty solid. Also, I have a dumb question does UIUC take the top ten percent at Illinois high schools? Idk they do that in Texas, and you are in the top quartile so that might help out a bit.
Well as a resident from Texas, whose dying to get into UIUC, I wish you luck!
Nope they don’t use any high school rankings for auto admit. Living in Illinois really sucks because we have to pay 35k a year for our freaking in state schools lmao. @warriorblade101
@mitchistheman97
Haha, you make living in Texas amazing instate tuition is roughly 9 to 12k for public schools and they auto accept top 10 percent and we get priority admission decisions.
Also I haven’t done the calculations, but do you think I could get a decent amount of merit aid with a 2200 SAT?
UIUC is notorious for being EXTREMELY stingy with aid, but you’ll still probably get some, just probably not a ton @warriorblade101
@MitchIsTheMan97
Yah, I’ve heard a lot about them being stingy. I’ll probably get very little because my parents are wealthy, but I really wanted to pay my own tuition and work my way up, but that sucks.
