Do I still have any chance with a low GPA?

I am a Junior in High School, worried about my chances for a good college, and I would greatly appreciate it if somebody took the time to reply to this. I do not really know what information is important and I have no experience with college applications. I would really like to go to somewhere like MIT or Carnegie Mellon but I am very dubious of my chances for these schools (I am not undergoing the application process yet and so am not worried about safeties) Here is my info:

9th grade:
all honors
two B's all other A's (this was in my middle school and I had the philosphy that if I already knew it, why do the homework?)

10th grade
all honors + AP Stat and AP history
straight A's

11th grade (now)
6 AP's
straight A's and A+'s (this will continue unless something goes horribly wrong)

I will be taking 7 APs in 12th grade and my grades will still be As and A+'s
Also, my class rank is currently top 9%, not including 11th grade

EC's:
Lacrosse since 6th grade (captain last year)
Science Olympiad (helped start the club at my school this year)
National Honor Society
National German Honor Society
FBLA (future business leaders of america)
Model United Nations
Key Club (10th 11th grades)
I assist my grandfather distribute food to needy as part of "Meals on Wheels"
Avid computer enthusiast (programming, 3d modeling, game design, etc.)

I also speak English, German, and Japanese(although my Japanese reading is not the best, and I grew up monolingual) and will hopefully be relatively proficient in Russian by the time I apply for college (I have no idea if multilingualism helps)

SAT: Took it once without studying, got a 2200, I will retake it and hopefully get over 2300

My question is:
do I still have a chance, despite my low class rank and poor performance in 9th grade? and is there any way I could showcase other talents (computers, etc) because I feel that is where my strengths are?

Thank you in advance to anybody who does reply (if any) and I just realized I wrote ALOT

I think you can get into Carnegie Mellon. However, MIT will probably be a reach, even if you get higher ranks, SAT, etc. You will need to find something special in your resume that you can show to MIT.

alright, thanks for that… what sort of things would they look for? I still have time in which I could try to bolster my application

Carnegie’s a high match, I think. Grades and numbers look decent, and hey, anata wa nihonjin des-ka? Languages are pretty cool stuff worth sliding in during interviews, they make an impact on diversity (which CMU does focus on).

Two Bs and otherwise As aren’t “poor performance…” Poor performance is when you get a C- in Hmath after a B- the year before, jsaying :)

Your computer programming interest is good help for CMU; emphasize that in your app or interview, which will give you better odds. top 10 percent is fine.

In short, you look totally fine for CMU. I’d give that a shot, and be ready to be surprised. Good luck! (PS, where’s that low GPA? and your Subject tests?)

Chance back if you will?
