You're freshmen year do u have to live in the dorms or can you choose to live in an apartment?

It's not required for any UT student to live on-campus, including freshman. If you want an apartment or private dorm, you're fine. Nothing to worry about.

thanks BS to UT...

I think they would prefer more students like you, Canttouchthis.

what do u mean they would prefer more students like me?

Students that don't want to live on-campus. UT housing is ALWAYS completely full, so they would like more students to live off-campus to alleviate the housing problems.

i see so should i inform them of this when i apply or something?

You don't have to. Just don't send in a housing application if you're for sure that you're not living on campus. But if you think you might want to live in a UT dorm, I would send in an application early if you have any doubt. It's better to be offered housing and turn it down than to want housing and you didn't apply.

thanks....

Is UT in debt????

Definitely not in debt, just space challenged.

does anyone know where i can apply for housing??...i am surprised i have still not received anything regarding housing, just a couple of apartment brochures. is it too late for me to apply for dorms?? thanks

I applied for on-campus housing on August 1st, the first day that one could, and received a pamphlet for a private dorm (very nice) near UT, but never was offered on-campus. I think you're outta luck at this point.

^did you mean sept 1 because that is when incoming freshman were allowed to apply.

weird, i applied for housing after i got my decision and received a contract for regular housing about a week ago...too bad i already sent in the payment for dobie.

brand_182 or any of you who know the answer -

Do you mean if you were going to start at Texas as a freshman in the fall of 2008 you would submit your application for on campus housing in September 1, 2007?

Thanks!

collegenow - yeah September 1st my bad.

JJG - I believe so. Just be sure to check the Housing website and it'll have instructions. It costs $50 to submit a housing app.

Yes, if you want on-campus housing, you submit a housing application long before you know if you are accepted and even before you apply (say goodbye to the housing deposit if you aren't accepted or decide to go elsewhere). UT does not come close to having enough dorm capacity for freshmen, let alone all students.

actually, you dont have to pay your deposit when you apply for housing...you pay an application fee like you would if you are applying to a college...if you do not get in or decide not to go, you will lose the application fee.

is it hard to get housing if you apply on september 1st, what is tha latest you can apply that you will probably get housing, or does it all fill up september 1st?
