Hello,
I'm going to be a senior this fall, and my application is pretty much set. I was wondering if I could get some feedback for my admission chances to this great school.

I'm attending the best private school in Missouri which does not weigh grades or give a class rank because the competition is so high.

GPA=3.53
SAT=Math-670
CR-640
Writing-580
I will be taking 3 SATII's in October

AP's-Bio-5
Statistics
AB Calculus
Economics

ECs
I am an Eagle Scout and I am very involved in Boy Scouts. I have been awarded many honors, and I am still very active in the community clocking a couple houndred community service hours.
I am not involved in any school clubs because most of my time commitment is in sports and boy scouts.
I work as kind of a secretery at small local college.

Sports-Football=2 varsity letters
Wrestling=2 varsity letters and team captain

I have not finished my essay yet, but so far it is progressing quite well, and I know my recommendations will be great. I just hope that coming from out of state won't take me out of the running.

Thanks for all of your help and input!

you seem to have a strong sports background and a good service background, but despite whatever weight is placed on your extracurriculars, you still should have a strong academic background to ensure or at least increase chances of acceptance at Michigan (or any other school). i don't know what your grades look like, but judging from your 3.5 gpa and your less-than-stellar scores, this is definitely the weakest part of your application. my advice would be to work hard first semester senior year and to get all As and A-s, B+ at the worst, and then only sparingly, and to retake the SATs and study, study, study English grammar to boost that writing score. a score in the 500s doesn't look good, especially if you're applying to as competitive a school as Michigan. Michigan may be a reach for you, but good luck - it's a great place to be. if you have any other questions, PM me.

thanks for the input freckly. Right now I am debating on whether on not to retake the SAT again or just take 3 SAT II's. The top 4 schools I am looking at do not require the subject tests, but I know they will be a good addition if I can pull off a good score. Do you feel I should study all Summer and retake the SAT and shoot for a 1450+, or should I take the subject tests?

Thanks for your help

you should try taking the ACT. I would also suggest taking the SAT I over again, b/c if your SAT I isn't even good enough, then your SAT II's won't even matter....

also, since youre out of state, you'll need higher stats, and a 3.5 GPA is usually not enough

agreed with above poster. if your sat I isn't high enough, it's going to make things more difficult for you. obviously, if you have 800/800/800 on your sat IIs, and your sat Is are only eh, it's not going to hurt your application, but if your sat IIs are only moderate and your sat IIs include one subscore in the 500s, that'll look REALLY bad. i say, take both the sat IIs and the sat I again and make sure you boost the sat I score. if you have any Qs about the writing, i'll happily oblige, since my writing score was...pretty good.

good luck!

The myth of GPA trumping all other factors is highly overstated; my girlfriend was accepted from Ohio with 3.2/1150. Apply and see what happens.
