I can’t do any sort of homework or studying without music.

I do listen to music sometimes, out of habit, when doing any hw/projects… but after 15 minutes of getting practically nothing done, i turn it off.

i get too involved with the music and my thinking capabilities diminish… e.g. classical music, i start identifying the notes being played, the dynamics and tone; normal-vocals/stuff on the radio, i start paying attention to the lyrics and start singing along. Maybe i’m just terrible at multitasking… lol.

I play in a symphony orchestra ([Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, Claremont, California](http://www.cymo.org/)), so I’m a big fan of symphonic works (yay shameless advertising). But I grew up with solo piano and violin (the two instruments I play). I’d say I’ll listen to anything now, when I’m sure that Mahler and Hindemith and Shostakovich would have confused the heck out of me in the past.

I think my “favorite” pieces are the ones that I played with CYMO, since I really got to know the piece from the inside out through rehearsing and practicing. Some examples: Mahler 1, Shostakovich 5, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphoses, Dvorak 8, Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Festival Overture, etc. We play a lot of music each season.

I’m addicted to classical music featuring brass or wind instruments. I guess that’s because I was in a marching and symphonic band for a couple years.

I really like Haydn and Hummel’s trumpet concertos; Crusell’s clarinet concertos, and Mozart’s works for the flute and clarinet. I also adore piano music - I used to play the piano. My favorite piano pieces are all concertos - Chopin’s no. 1, Beethoven’s Emperor, and Mozart’s Coronation.

I also like some Romantic era music. I put on Verdi’s Grand March from Aida whenever I get a level 5 question right :p. If you like Verdi’s Grand March, do yourself a favor and listen to the Boston Pops orchestra play it :).

Your post just goes to show how big the world of classical music is. I don’t know any of the composers you’ve named except for Gustav Mahler. I’ll make sure to check out all the pieces you referenced though! Sounds like fun (rofl)!

^ So cool that yall are that talented. I’m self-teaching myself the keyboard right now…it’s such a great instrument (and extremely close to a piano :D). I’m still learning my chords though :)

I really really really really want to Learn how to play the Piano and Violin

But I cannot afford a violin:(

Not really, I get distracted.

But I do love me some classical music. Brass, brass, brass.

do any of your teachers let you listen to music during tests or quiet work?

^ I remember in 5th grade they let us do that. We listened to the Beatles :D

If it’s something I have to do without much effort, I listen. If I actually need to study, the headphones are off.

I’ll listen to music if I’m just going over class notes, doing math problem sets, or anything like that. I won’t if it involves significant reading, but I actually like to listen to music while writing, especially if it’s music that fits the mood of what I’m writing. I’ll listen to whatever I normally listen to, i.e. The Black Keys, The Roots, Arcade Fire, etc.

I think classical music does the trick. Some Mozart or Tchaikovsky never hurt :p

^I think christian rock does the trick jk lol. Post-rock/math rock instrumental music is nice while studying.

gotta love ke$ha music

Always do even when reading! Lil Wayne or 3oh3 and sometimes owl city for my math mood

No… it bothers and distracts me.

^Same. If I do listen to music, it takes me pretty much double the time to accomplish something that I want to do.
