For me it's AP chem. I'm always looking at the tests like https://scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/1619132_749902398373768_1066993941_n.png

No.

Numerical Analysis. I don’t like applied math and I knew that when I signed up for it and I don’t know why I did.

Spanish 3 AP, Pre-Cal, and Physiology.

Chemistry as a freshman instead of Pre-AP Biology which is what everyone else does.

lol Rondo’s face though

I took a few boring “joke classes” in college to get GE requirements out of the way, when I could have taken interesting philosophy and language classes for the same GE requirements.

Classes (in high school and college) that have proven useless and forgettable to me include but are not limited to:
- economics (joke class; I should have taken AP Macroeconomics and actually studied; it would have helped in debate and extemp)
- US government (no way to redeem that subject)
- US history (had to trudge through history one way or another, and US seemed slightly less boring than world)
- anatomy and physiology (I regret blowing the class off and cheating my way through it; the teacher was one of the best I have ever had and I missed an opportunity to become well-versed in a fascinating and useful subject)
- “writing research papers” (got an A on a well-structured but full-of-BS paper that I wrote the weekend before it was due, after a few searches through Google Scholar and Google News)
- “research methods” (somehow, it made me worse at researching information)
- intro to communication studies (expected it to be an easy GE; it turned out to be a weed-out class for communication majors (don’t laugh) graded by sociopathic grad students)
- “art encounters” (most beautiful thing I saw was a 525-seat lecture hall without a single empty seat)
- life sciences (representative of my bad choice of a major, a mistake I have since corrected)

Classes that surprised me with how much I enjoyed and benefited from them include:
- a class that was identical to AP English Language and Composition (basically single-handedly taught me how to communicate in writing, but it also turned me into a paranoid perfectionist)
- a science fiction class (introduced me to some of my favorite books)
- Spanish (I. LOVE. LANGUAGES.)

Although I got an A in calculus 2 (integration and infinite series), I deeply regret not doing the homework. I feel so lost whenever I have to integrate in physics or higher levels of calculus. I learned so much more in calculus 1 even though I got a B in calculus 1.

And not that I could control this, but I wish it were standard for high schools to teach discrete mathematics classes like the one I am currently taking in college. It introduces what mathematics really is, and the only prerequisite is high school algebra. I would have immensely benefited from this class as a sophomore, as it actually teaches you how to solve problems and how to write proofs. I might have become a half-confident mathematician instead of the nervous, self-hating wreck I am today after years of banging my head against the brick wall that is calculus without a good mathematical foundation.

AP Biology as someone planning to take CS. If I had to go back I would have opted for AP Psychology instead. That said, I wouldn’t call it a regret of taking Bio as much as the choice of Bio over Psych.

Gym. Didn’t know that a). High school gym would be so stupid and b). There was a test-out…

The BS classes I took my freshman and sophomore year, but I regret the classes I didn’t take more.

Creative Writing. It was a fun class, but the grading was way harsher than I had imagined, and I ended up with am 89 – not bad for me, but in such an easy class with no weighting? I could have died.

@Halogen If you’re referring to Advanced Composition as the class identical AP Language, they’re actually quite different. If you’re referring to something else, maybe I don’t know your academic history as well as I thought. :P

I regret wasting my time on lower level English classes. Primarily English 1. I mean I guess it’s possible I would have not done well in my upper level English classes without it, but I can’t help but feel like I wasted time diagramming sentences and doing dumb busy work projects. I wish I had started off with more difficult English classes so I’d be in specialized English right now instead of AP Lit. Although I do love AP Lit! I’d like to have already taken it and be studying sci fi or fantasy or something else right now.

I also regret taking AP US Gov through the online school I took it with. I would have learned much more had I taken it from a school that actually knows how to teach.

@brokenandhealed

Wha… I admit, it took me a minute. And I will take your word for it about AP Language.

I wish i would have doubled up and taken algebra II with geometry this year. Despite all the complaints I should have take honors english this year and freshman year bc regualrs english is honestly a complete JOKE. I should have taken honors accounting instead of public speaking bc 1) i still can’t present my self professionally 2) gpa weighted with accounting duh. Going into junior year with classes i’m interested in while also challenging myself with more rigorous courses

@Halogen You can’t escape me. Muahah.

Independent Research, aka Play On Your Phone and Talk For an Hour and a Half.
We’re supposed to use that time to do homework and study, but a few of my friends are in that class so it’s impossible to concentrate. I’m not even sure why I took it anyways because it’s Freshman year and I have no homework load. My parents make me feel guilty about it too because I subbed out of AP Stats for that…oopsies

AP Lang. The teacher never grades or gives us feedback on anything we turn in, and we’ve only written one essay ALL YEAR. I feel crazy unprepared for that exam. :-<

AP physics C. The class is CRAZY! It’s so easy to fall behind. It takes up all of my time and the number one reason why I took it is because I thought it was going to be interesting. The information is so dry, AP chem was so much more fun.

Foundations of Technology. My state requires a tech credit: Digital Art, Foundations of Tech, or Designing Tech Solutions. I thought the other tech classes would be hard, but FOT was a true waste of time.

Computer Applications - The counselor in my middle school made a big deal about how it would be so beneficial to take as a freshman, so I took it. Most useless class ever - all we learned were the basics of MS word, powerpoint, and excel. I learned nothing new… Waste of time.

Psychology - Everyone told me it was vital to take regular psych before AP psych - definitely not the case! I would have done just fine in AP without wasting my time in regular first.

Physics - I didn’t have any interest in AP Physics during my sophomore year, so I signed up to take regular my junior year. I ended up taking AP my senior year… And since my teacher for regular was useless, it was also a waste of time.

US History - I thought 4 AP’s would be too much for one year (3 is far more than the typical student at my school) so I opted for regular. I should have taken APUSH though.

Accounting - It was a repeat of computer apps, but slightly more focused on teaching us how to use excel.

I could have taken so many more classes that were more useful and engaging in place of these. Digital Electronics, AP Bio, Anatomy, APUSH…
