Does anyone know about the Transfer process at Rice?

Now that I've gotten denied its looking like a good option...

The transfer process is perhaps even tougher. I am engaging in it so far, and the admissions calculus for transfer is somewhat different than regular admissions. It appears that you already have an excellent background and that you only need to maintain a tough course-load and grades in college. However, in order to successfully transfer, you must be able to explicate a compelling reason for wanting to attend Rice. Why do you need Rice? What does it have to offer? In order to demonstrate what Rice offers to you, you must also demonstrate what your focus in life is and how Rice is crucial in fulfilling that goal.

Wow thats interesting... well at least I'll have plenty of time to think about it...

There is an unsubstantiated rumor that if you are transferring from an Ivy, it is more difficult because it is harder to explicate your reasons for wanting to attend Rice. Whatever it is, make sure your reason is compelling and specific to Rice. You must have a focus; I cannnot stress this enough.

Thanks for all the advice nspeds...I'm going to need it... I would likely be trying to transfer in from UNC, not an Ivy, so I'm good in that respect. Oh I REALLY want to be at Rice- I'm sure I can translate it into a good argument somehow...

Build a good relationship with your professors at UNC early in the year so they can realize your drive, potential, and goals; their recommendations will contribute significantly.

Ironically enough, I interviewed for Rice with a professor of Physics (my intended major) at UNC... So I've already got something of a start there.
