I know they are required but it says on the Dartmouth website that if you decided to apply ED and didnt take SAT II's it's ok.
"You may apply for Early Decision even if you have not yet taken two SAT II: Subject Tests. You must, however, take two SAT II's no later than January of your senior year. These test results will be used in further evaluating the applications of deferred Early Decision applicants and for academic placement of accepted candidates."

So they play a factor in RD but not in ED? Thanks.

I strongly doubt that they simply ignore SATIIs in the case of ED candidates who present them. Which I’d be willing to bet is probably almost all ED candidates.

What they are saying is that they will not eliminate you from consideration because you haven’t taken them YET.

But does it mean that you could get in Early Decision without submitting subject scores? I mean it says These test results will be used in further evaluating the applications of deferred Early Decision applicants and FOR ACADEMIC PLACEMENT OF ACCEPTED CANDIDATES."

Apparently, since that is precisely what the text you’ve quoted says.

It then goes on to say

So perhaps an ED acceptance could be rescinded if you don’t follow through and take the SATIIs.

Nevertheless, as several of us have said, the likelihood is that most ED applicants will present SATII scores, so you should probably plan to take a couple in October if you haven’t already unless the rest of your app makes it clear that you walk on water.

If you really want to get the definitive answer, pick up the phone and call the admissions office. You don’t have to give your name.

My guess is that they want to be able to lock up the strongest athletes ED, even if they haven’t taken SAT IIs. I wouldn’t counsel a non-hooked candidate to apply ED unless their application was pristine.

I do not know if Dartmouth has a similar system as Michelle Hernandez described when she was in admissions. Back then the 3 Sat IIs were weighted the same as the (two part) SATs.
If I had to guess, the Writing part of the SAT is treated the same as the old SAT II and the Writing plus the top two SAT Subject Tests are now treated equally to the SAT Math and Reading.
The bottom line to me is that applying without two stellar Subject Tests is applying with one hand tied applied your back. I wouldn’t advise counting on that at any Ivy League school, unless you are hooked.
