Hello, I am a freshman in high school. I would really like to either go to Duke, UNC, or go to school in the Netherlands to study biology, go to med school, and become a dermatologist. I have been dancing for many years and I am quite good. However, my parents don’t want me to join the dance team because they think it is inappropriate. My other extracurriculars include Crosby Scholars(you do community serivce and they help you with college, scholarships, etc), french club, Key club (you do 30 hours of community service and it looks good on college applications according to my brother and mom), Medical club, and The American Red Cross Club, all of which I plan to take all four years. However, I am expecting my college essay to not be very strong becuase I am very bad at english, and I am extremely bad at writing compared to the people in my classes. I am not dumb though, I am still taking the hardest classes I can take as a freshman. Will doing dance at a studio for 14 years (by the time I am 17) look somewhat as good as being on the dance team? Or will it at least look as good as a club?
Having a passion for dance is a good thing. It doesn’t really matter whether dance was at school or in a studio.
ECs are all about how you use your time outside the classroom. It doesn’t matter where that is.
