Does my son have a chance as a review admitt?

My Son is a great kid, but screwed up his first two years of high school and we moved to a new school where he has done great, turned his academics around.

He did very good on his ACT a 31 (the break down, 35 science, 31 math, 30 reading, 29 English).

He is very involved has worked for four years, in lots of EC stuff and outside service projects, his app was full in all those events including awards he has won.

We also think he wrote three awesome essays, but who really knows if they will like them.

Both myself and his mother went to A&M and he wants to be in the Corps in the Wing, Sq.12.

The Big problem is he is in the bottom 1/2 of his class ( a small private school of 31 kids, and only has a grade point of 2.93. So I read less than 2% of kids admitted are in bottom 1/2 of class

The question is will his good ACT score help offset the GPA at all?

He is taking the ACT next week a second time, we paid for a prep-classroom study course on the ACT and he is scoring about a 33 now on the practice ACT. So there is a chance he could improve on the 31.

We don't want his hopes up, but does he have any chance in the spring review process? What do you think is there any hope for a review admit or the Blinn Team?

His back up school is Ok St. were he was already admitted based on the 31 ACT.

Thanks for any replies

Well he needs to take the SAT… thats another big factor with their review process
I would say he will find out in April if he was accepted, but yes his low rank will hurt him severely.

He got a 1310 on the SAT, so his ACT was higher, I think they take the highest of SAT or ACT. So he will retake the ACT to try and get it to a 32 or 33…

Thanks

i know a kid who was right around the bottom 25% who got in. he ended up on the blinn team and was in the corps. but he didnt find out until AFTER he had graduated from high school. the one good thing is that if your S is in the corps, he wont have to worry about scrambling for housing, which is the major drawback for the blinn team (for me at least) for a non-reg student.

i would say you need to up the demonstrated interest as much as you can. let them know that a&m is REALLY where he wants to be!

you need to make an appointment with an admissions counselor… they can answer these kind of questions for you. If there is a satellite admissions center near you? I would make an appointment at A&M or at a satellite admissions center with a counselor asap. They can give you real answers, and help your son.
