Does UCSB Score Applications Holistically? Or is it basically all about your GPA? How much weight does the personal statement have?

I don’t think UCSB is one of the campuses that read the personal statement.

^Correct. They don’t read personal statements for transfer students. All about your GPA and pre-reqs. I think 3.2 was the cutoff last year.

I believe UCSB is one of the only campuses that has not switched to the holistic method, so it’s pretty much purely GPA based. And last I checked they don’t read personal statements for transfers either.

I’m SOL then. What about UCSC?

I think the only campuses that read transfer personal statements are UCLA, Cal, Merced, and Irvine.

They do for freshman applicants. Transfer admissions is all about GPA and how competitive you are. Here’s a quote from their UCSB admissions youtube channel:

“For transfers, we do not use your essays to decide whether or not you will be admitted (as we do for freshman). Instead, we base your admission on whether or not you’ve competitively met all admission requirements and standards. We still do use the essays to assess you for special programs and scholarships though.”

I know because I asked them once on their youtube channel and again through email at their regular site.
