What sort of clothing do people wear in their dorms? I was thinking of clothes I wear around the house - old T-shirts and track pants/bermuda shorts. To be honest, the clothes I lounge around in are kind of shabby, which is okay at home, but would it be acceptable in a dorm? I really want to be comfortable, but at the same time I don't want to look underdressed when compared to my dorm-mates.

I rather doubt that it matters. It isn’t a fashion show.

I’d wear exactly what I wear at home. Obviously lounging around in your underwear may cross the line, but there’s nothing wrong with dressing comfortably.

Yeah, no one really cares. I personally stay in whatever I wore that day, and if I plan on just lounging around in my room (or if I’m doing laundry) I put on an old t shirt and comfortable pants/shorts.

When we weren’t going out (either to go to class, grocery shopping, or to hang out), my suitemates and I used to walk around our suite-style dorm in our pajamas all the time.

I always hung out in my dorm and later apartment in my pajamas (old shirts and pajama bottoms or sweats). No one cares, and quite frankly, when I was an upperclassman and was super lazy, I’d go to class or grocery shopping or whatever in my pajamas or sweats as well.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in (although walking around in your underwear will probably not be appreciated).

I went to school before the days of co-ed by floor dorms. I bet some girls will try to look “cute” at all times…Can’t be looking like they just rolled out of bed now. But that will probably last a couple of days.

^^^
So true, like the first ~week all the girls were always in nice clothes and did their hair whenever they left the room. By month 2 every single one was in sweats and some T-Shirt unless they were going out to party.

By second semester some were partying in sweats as well.

I wear a T-shirt and athletic shorts. I sometimes wear sweat pants or a hoodie.

Really, whatever you want as long as you are wearing clothes! Seriously on that one, in our dorm people walked around in their underwear…

lol it depended. sometimes in the morning or whatever, I might be in my underwear (I don’t care though about being seen in my underwear). but usually it was just whatever clothes I happened to have on at the time.

I’ll put it this way:

Right now I’m wearing a shirt my high school’s mascot shot into the bleachers from a shirt gun during an assembly freshman year and a pair of murky shorts with oil stains on them.

Seriously, no one cares.

Dude, if it covers the bits (and you’re not in a clothing optional place) it’s fine.

…I lived in a hall where people walked around nude, 'cause it was clothing-optional. No one cares.

My boyfriend (a senior) lives on the 22nd floor of his dorm, and there’s also a laundry room up there. The only time he ever felt judged was when he went to do his laundry in his pajamas… on parents’ weekend. So there were a bunch of freshmen parents up there to see the view of Boston from the laundry room and not yet recognizing the reality of college.

I usually shower in the late afternoon and if I’m not planning on going out anytime after that, I just wear a T-shirt and sweatpants. And yeah no one really cares. Some guys get away with just running around shirtless.

When I lived in dorms during the beginning of undergrad I got noticed more by women when I started wearing custom made suits, silk suspenders, silk ties, precious metal cufflinks, and fedoras.

Even today I’ll sometimes wear a brightly colored tailcoat tuxedo with leather dancing shoes, it works if you have the swagger to pull it off.

In your own dorm (including lobbies) I think PJs are the way to go. Limiting it to your floors I say you’re allowed to be shirtless maybe even with shorts. Never seen anyone just walking around in undies or naked so I doubt it will happen.

Clothing is optional but of course logic dictates that women will be around lol.

@nano, does your bf live in stuvie? sounds familiar lol. i’d just wear lounge comfy clothes in my dorm if i’m going anywhere.

Honestly no one cares. The guys in my building literally walk around in socks, shorts/boxers and no shirt. Girls may as well not have on pants half the time. I know I usually walk around in sweats or leggings and any old raggedy shirt.
