Dorm Decision

I was accepted to Carnegie Mellon -- Early Decision -- into the Tepper School of Business. I am ecstatic. : )

However, my next decision is . . what dorm should I choose? ED people get first pick.

Help? =P

what were ur stats

probably New House which true to the name is only a year or so old. It's mostly freshmen I think and good location. Morewood Gardens also popular but older. Donner ugly outside but redone inside, has shared hall bathrooms.
Overall since you have the pick, consider New House.

The only drawback I see with New House is that you will have to enter the roomdraw next year if it is a freshman only dorm. It is the nicest and newest dorm on campus, but if you get a bad draw for next year's room, you may not be so happy whereas there are some dorms suche as Morewood Gardens or Mudge (I am a bit out of date, you need to look at the housing site) where you can keep your room and not have to enter the lottery.

like what? SATs and such?

SAT = 1250
SAT II = 600-700s
ACT = 30
Bunch of leadership awards, lots of EC activities, Varsity Tennis, Advanced to States twice.. Class President, Honors Society President, Latin Club President..

?

I did the sleeping bag weekend and stayed at New House, but someone said it consisted mostly of juniors and seniors. My twin sister stayed at Donner and said the rooms were large.

I would definately recommend living in a freshman dorm because it is the easiest way to meet people. I have made a lot of friends just on my floor, and it is not so easy when you live in suite housing. Upperclassmen already have friends and usually they hang out with them and not freshmen. NewHouse is all freshmen and is a really nice dorm because it is new. It has air conditioning which is nice for the first two weeks, but unnecessary for a big part of the year. The problems with it are that it fills up quickly, and that it has the smallest rooms I have ever seen. If you are messy or want a decent sized room I would not recommend this. Donner, Hamerschlag, and Morewood E tower are also all freshmen. Donner and Morewood are coed which I think is a definate plus, but most of the people who live in Hamerschlag end up enjoying it. Donner is located closer to campus than the others, but they are all reasonably close. Hamerschlag has nice rooms, and I like the rooms in E tower (where I live). Donner is pretty ugly but the rooms are big. Morewood has The Underground which has pool tables a TV and food which is nice if you are lazy and want food at night. You dont even have to leave the building to get food-a definate convenience. In the end, I think almost everyone is happy where they are although I still think I would hate living in an all guy dorm.

new house is only for freshmen
