I recently visited UNC Chapel Hill...only thing I didn't like were the dorms.. they showed us Craige Hall which seemed cramped, old, and small. I'm interested in UNC but the dorms were definitely a let-down..it didn't seem like you could drink in there or do much of anything... I'm wondering if freshman parties are common in the dorms on south campus and if under-age people can drink and party on campus ??

If you’re underage, you can’t party on campus at UNC. In fact, you can’t really party in the dorms at all. The only way you are permitted to drink is if you are 21 and you do it in your room. There are parties that you can go to off campus, but the chances are if you party in the dorms, you’re going to get busted.

I wouldn’t say that the dorms at UNC are a let down. I’ve lived on both North Campus and South Campus, and I’ve loved both places. You can definitely have a lot of fun on campus without partying, but people do party here on the weekends.

That being said, if you want to a school just to party, UNC probably is not the school for you.

I am not sure what packerfan89 is talking about, he or she makes it sound like there is not much partying or drinking going on-which is not the case. Sure you are not suppose drink underage, but there are plenty of people or lots of people partying on campus and off- I know that for a fact. You can get in some of the dance clubs if you want to go dancing or hang out. Believe me you will find plenty of people wanting to partying and plenty who do not care for it, you will fit in. You will have a good time on campus and off but be careful.

They always show one of the oldest dorms on tours so that you don"t get your hopes up for the new or newly remodeled dorms. That said, I’ve heard plenty of people say they were very happy to have lived in Craige and E’haus dorms freshman year.

If you didn’t like the on-campus dorm and the strictness of living on-campus, check out Granville Towers! The dorms are considerable larger, and only 4 people share a bathroom. You’re allowed to have your car as a freshman (you have to pay for a permit, though) and it is definitely not a dry dorm.

I don’t recommend Granville for OOS students or anyone with no interest to go Greek.

I highly recommend Granville.

Live on North campus. Way way way nicer and closer to classes, and there will be plenty of first years there. I lived in Kenan and liked it so much I recontracted.
