hey guys, I am strongly considering the u of m and want to send in my housing application soon. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations or input? Like what are the pros and cons of each dorm. I’m considering one of the superblock dorms, but I would love to know what you guys think!
Bailey- Pros: quiet, uncrowded, good dining hall. Cons: on St.Paul campus- you’ll be far from any sort of campus life. Avoid as a freshman unless agoraphobic.
Comstock- Pros: outstanding location, good dining hall, close to river, student union and art museum (some great views) Cons: not as many social options as 17th or Superblock. Parking for move-in/move-out really difficult.
17th- Pros: Good location near stadium, rec center and Dinkytown. Newest dorm, best food. Cons: Superpopular, especially for freshman, noisy, on frat row (lots of Greek parties nearby, which might be a pro).
Superblock (Centennial/Territorial/Pioneer/Frontier)- Pros: Very social, lots of chances for interaction. Close to rec center and Stadium Village. Cons: Party central for the dorms, shared dining halls (crowded and noisy).
Sanford- Pros: Not as old as Superblock or Comstock, own dining hall. Cons: Inconvenient location for campus, but great for Dinkytown.
Middlebrook- Pros: Honors housing, close to West Bank-arts programs, quirky and lots of personality. Cons: Long walk to bus for programs other than arts/music/management/social sciences.
