What exactly do the dorm rooms already have in them before we move in? Telephone? Trash can? Chair for the desk? Anything besides the obvious furniture?

Beds, desk/chair, closet, dresser thing.

What to bring list from the Housing site:

Bring your own towels, pillows, linens to fit an extra long twin bed (36" x 80"), and a non-halogen desk lamp. You may also bring a telephone, stereo, television, clock, fan, computer, print, power strip/surge protector, and a mini-vacuum.

Do they have trash cans? Or do we have to bring our own? They had them during orientation...

yes... trash cans are provided but its a good idea to bring a second one for recylcling...

Hurray for recycling!

In regards to bringing a telephone...do most people just use their cell phones as their main phone? If not, how much does it cost to call locally through using a land phone in your dorm room? How much are long distance calls?

Yes, most students in the dorms use their cell phones as their main phone, due to convenience, desk space and not having to pay for a land-line phone service. Also, every floor already has recycling bins next to the garbage chutes.

is there any reason why you would suggest a non-halogen lamp?

yeah, i'm curious too.. especially since i bought a halogen desk lamp

maybe it's because fire can originate from halogen lamps?

i have no clue whatsoever

you're not allowed to have them

anybody taking bottles of tylenol, vitamin c , and calcium to the dorms?
is first aid prvided at the halls?

I think on each floor there's a SHA, which is a Student Health Advisor. I think they have first aid stuff. I don't know from first hand experience though.

will the take away your halogen lamp if u bring one?

jason im taking all of that. its good to. college sickness spreadfast.

yup...bring the common over-the-counter stuff for the random headache etc.

will the take away your halogen lamp if u bring one?

^ it's really not a good idea since they start fires easily

they are banned for a reason!

I was wondering what the difference was between a halogen/non-halogen lamp. Now I know!

noo...
but i bought my halogen desk lamp at ikea, and its so beautiful, and everything from ikea is safe and quality-proven! =D
