So I didn't want to get stuck without housing this semester so I got off campus housing, how do I sign up for on campus housing for next semester (fall 09)?

Can anyone give me any information?

Unfortunately, once you opt out of on-campus housing you're pretty much screwed if you want to move on campus later. Since campus housing is consistently well past capacity and freshmen and returning residents are guaranteed housing, there's just not much room (read: in recent years and none at all) for continuing students who don't already dorm.

Your best bet is to contact Campus Residences and make sure my information is up to date and find out if there's anything you can do to improve your chances. Likely what they'll tell you is to put your name on the housing waiting list when the one for next year goes up (usually May 1st, I think) and hope for the best. The problem is that even if they do contact you in spring 2010 with a housing opening, you'll probably already be locked into a lease that you can't just get out of on a moment's notice, and if you pass up the spot they give you when your name comes up you lose your place.

Hey prog can you tell me a little bit about living outside of the campus? Thats what im planning on doing.

Are you going to be a new student or are you going to be moving from on-campus to off-campus? If your a new student (as I was, I transfered this semester), I’d really recommend trying to get on campus housing. I feel really disconnected from the school and find it harder to meet people when your not on campus as much as others. They do have commuter meetings once a month (I think), and I get emails from the “Commuter Student Services” about events taking place on campus, but I don’t know how many people go to the meetings.

I’m assuming you’ll have a car, I don’t which is why it would be easier for me to live on campus. I catch a ride with my roommate and my apartment and we park at South P. There’s always parking there, and the express bus (goes more or less straight from south P to the SAC) comes every couple minutes, though you might have to wait longer on certain days, and you may have to stand on the bus.

If your a new student I strongly suggest you live on campus, because otherwise it’ll be pretty difficult to meet people and find things to do easily.

prog - Well, if you don’t know how many people go to the meetings… you need to go to the meetings! :)
