So anyone willing to give some summaries of the dorms. My top choices for now are Boweles, Foothill, and Clark Kerr.
Just interested in the type of people the dorms are associated with, and general impressions and whatnot.

Thanks for any comments!

Tour guide told us the Bowles guys are really tight. A solid group of young men who do a lot of social activities together. Better to ask a student, of course. Try cross posting in Ask a Cal Student Anything…the student is pretty good about getting back to folks.

CalDad, your tour guide might have been a little generous with Bowles! I lived in Foothill, but from what I’ve heard, Bowles has the oldest facilities, and has all the pitfalls of a historical building, including suspicious plumbing.

I’ve stayed overnight at CK a few times, and I though they were very nice. CK is more comfortable than Foothill, but I had an exceptionally good time at Foothill so I am a bit biased.

Clark Kerr - The dorms are average, lots of athletes live here with some in suite style dorm living. The major downfall to these dorms is the distance from campus, they make it sound convenient with the buss pass, however it is not and for this reason I would not recommend living her during semester, the distance is really bothersome for me at least.

Foothills is beautiful place to live, the environment is nice if you like feeling like your in the hills and forest. The distance is another factor, and the building is older than the units, I like bowels but it does make you feel a little out of the main college life ( frat row, all the Berkeley shops and restaurants etc…)

Bowles does have a very tight community! the dorms are ancient, and that comes with lots of problems. But the biggest thing to me is that college should be a social experience for you so staying in an all male housing facility really limits your interaction and for me that was a deal breaker. Maybe your a type of person who likes this environment.

My personal suggestion is try to get into one of the units or Martinez! they are close, convenient and nice. No matter where you go the RA’s do a very good job of getting everyone together and building a community, as long as YOU participate you will meet new people, and have new adventure!

Good luck at cal Hope this helps a bit!

Bowles: I’ve never lived here but the people I’ve met who have tell me about the suspicious plumbing and older facilities in general. They’ve also talked about the general feeling of disconnect from campus.

Foothill: I lived here for a bit. My experience to be honest wasn’t great. I felt a huge disconnect from campus and from the south side of Berkeley, where most of the restaurants, lively atmosphere, parties, frats, etc. are at. If you prefer a more quiet environment, though, Foothill might be for you because it’s really a super pretty and nice area. I also met people who liked Foothill because they instantly clicked with their suite mates. My suite mates were either crazy or just gone all the time so I didn’t have that. Definite pluses for Foothill, though, include the Cub Market and the Dining Commons (nice TV and chill place to eat).

Units: I also lived here for a bit. This was by far my best living experience. I felt connected to campus because it was right in the middle of everything; parties, frats, Telegraph, restaurants, everything. I like living next to people but it’s not for everyone. And in Foothill I lived with 5 people who were never there, but in the Units I lived with 20, 30 people who were fun and always down to grab a bite to eat, study together, hang out, etc.

Clark Kerr: I haven’t lived here but I’ve heard mixed reviews from those who have. Some people really don’t like how far away it is from campus, but I’ve heard the rooms are bigger compared to others, the dining commons is nice, and the dorm overall is really pretty and visually unique.

Hope that helps! To me it seems like it just comes down to whether you like living in a calm/quiet atmosphere or prefer the company of people and movement
