Dorms Matchup

I'm taking AP Econ right now at school, and most of macroeconomics was concept-based, not math-based. Now micro is math-based, which isn't as exciting. I like econ, but I feel like it's too flat for me. I've always been more of a right-sided thinker, so subjects like history and English come much more naturally to me. Though I do always welcome a nice math challenge or riddle (including Sudoku and chess and some other fun things). I guess if I go to CMU, I'll have to adjust to the fact that I'll be using my left brain a lot more than I would really like to, haha.

I still get along with left-brained people fine. I'm glad you like drawing pictures, and if they be graphs, that's fine too. Actually I used to design websites in my spare time. With all the HTML and CSS and stuff. Wow, how things have changed...

Oooh. Chess. (Lol.. nerd sport.) See though, my school has nothing like AP Econ, so im stuck taking it at the CC, which honestly, feels abit remedial because we're almost at midterms and I have not yet learned much different from the HS class. Most of the class is pretty much failing and I have over a 100 average (not to brag, im just saying I wish AP Econ existed here, because I would be seeing something new by now). This school has been taking APs away over the past few years. They dropped BC Calc last year and AP Java the year or two before. Since the Java class is no longer AP, it doesnt really generate a lot of interest. I have been putting it on my schedule paper for the past few years and it just kept getting axed. Kind of makes me angry. This year I got to have a private dinner with the principal, and tell him what i didnt like. He kind of heard an earful about these departments... whoops.

Also, I own and operate a website. I run a cms though. I cant be arsed messing with static html anymore, especially since im sitting at 1000+ pages.

I'm doing ECE, and I'm a girl. but yeah, we're rare birds

Lol, way to prove what I said wrong. But hey, maybe i'll see you in class.

We really have very little say in our roomate assignments, so this is more of a get-to-know thread than anything else, by default.

Which is a good thing, and I'll come back and fill one out later, I just wanted to make sure no one thought we got to select our own roomates from a directory or something.

As far as I understand, you can room with a "friend". So, if there are some complete matches, that might be an option.

You can request a friend coming in freshman year, but I think the trick for you is finding that friend after you've listed that massive pile of specifications talking about how picky you are.

When I filled out the dorm questionnaire, there were three questions, as I recall. Do you smoke, how often do you want to clean the room (every day, few times a week, few times a month, never), and whether you'd use the dorm for studying or socializing or it depends. And they do try to match up people in at least the same college (I'm design and I had a drama roommate, we're both in CFA).

From my experience, the best attitude to go into a dorm with is willingness to make peace with whoever you get roomed with. If you think 'there's a 100% chance I'll clash with anyone I get put with', then that's a retarded attitude and your roommate will probably resent you for having a IM GOING TO CLASH WITH YOU attitude, so try not to go in with any presumptions. Besides, your roommate might complain about/make fun of you to the rest of the hall behind your back, which happens all the time, as every hall gets at least a couple anal-retentive alt culture/geeky weirdos who make themselves easy targets.

If you guys honestly don't like your roommate, you're not required to hang out with them, and if you have a real problem, communicate with them or if it's a big problem, don't be afraid to get your RA involved.

The RISD system is by far the best. Matches by music are hugely successful and I believe that other universities should take note of this fact.

The above statement is good.

Also, the 100% thing was abit of a joke, and I'd like to think people are more mature by college. Obviously, I overestimated the maturity of some(by no means all) of the class.

Thinking back to my freshman year, almost all roommates were matched up by college. My roommate was in engineering, both of my neighbors on both sides were engineers, the next room after them were both in MCS, the next room were both engineering, the next room were both CS, and the next were both in CFA.

I'd been told that they often match by college on the assumption that you'll be keeping similar crazy schedules. However my son SCS got put with a CIT guy. They did okay, but each found other roommates the next year. I think their entire floor was either SCS or CIT.

futurearchitect, that's so cool! I'd totally go for getting a roomate based on music tastes. That way, you can both blast music without the other having problems - and personalities, I assume, would also be compatible.

That would be so hard for me, just because I listen to everything, haha. But it would probably work more often than it fails.

bump.

10char

Yo metalforever. We could be roomies. This is sweeeeet and we could discuss all kinds of philosophical matters. What do you think about...the after life? haha

oooh. Im in. Definitely.

/talking to someone with a whole college class dedicated to that.

bump.

10char

I'm confused with your edit.

What i mean to say is I actually have an entire course right now dedicated to that topic that im taking at the local CC, so yes. Thatd be something id be willing to talk about.

I don't want to do that entire questionnaire thing but...

I'm a girl, I'm going to HSS, I'm SUPER open (almost to extremes), I'm an atheist (go read Richard Dawkins and see if you come out godly), I'm very promiscuous but not in to lots of different people at once (paradoxical I know), I'm sort of a health nut, I'm messy but not dirty (it's a creative person thing), I love philosophy and intellectual conversation, I love talking about sexuality, I love chilling to grunge rock, I can be a bit full of myself at times and oblivious to my environment, I'm in HSS, I'm a bit of a flirt, I generally don't get along with girls but I have a feeling that will be different at CMU, I LOVE WORLD OF WARCRAFT and video gaming (nerd goddess I know), I'm super querky and an odd combination of introvert and extrovert.

I'm redheaded and I don't smoke. I'm gonna double major in Global Politics/Ethics, Public Policy and Philosophy. I'm generally down with whatever, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

Who wants me?

@Juliet Capulet: Do you have a facebook? Some way we could communicate a bit? You seem cool, and we're both in HSS.

I love MMO's as well, played WoW up through BC. I had a 60 rogue (my vanilla pre-bc toon) and a 70 mage (for BC)... however I quit when I ran out of kids at my high school that were willing to accept the free trials I sent them and when my guild broke apart. Those games are really best when playing with people you know.. anyways now I play LOTRO to get my MMO fix when I'm not busy with TF2 or uh... RL?

However, i'm a guy... and in SCS, so I shall continue my search

Lol bco09, you're a guy? Haha and here I was thinking you were maybe a girl the whole time. So you guys are all pretty much set on going to CMU? Besides metalforever, of course, because you got in ED ;)

So I'm Atheist, pretty liberal, artsy and nerdy...I like to write, read, and act...I love independent films...I love Woody Allen...my favorite author is Jhumpa Lahiri...I like indie bands/electronic/alternative/folk/rock/pop...my favorite movie of all time must be "Before Sunset" though "Bella" comes at a close second...I also love philosophical discussions...I like to figure skate (thank GOD there's an ice rink nearby) and fly kites to relax...I like a good riddle/puzzle...I'm outgoing but I have my reclusive moments...just a little something something about me ;)

I have never figure skated in my life... lol. I have never heard of that- I thought it was only there for the olympics. But then again, i dont know what a lacrosse is either

Honestly, I havent heard of very many films. I dont watch television so i kind of miss out on the new ones. I like old 80s movies, with a few modern ones in there. Horror is kind of my thing, but anything is okay- just as long as it isnt romance. So, lost boys, poltergeist, etc.

Maybe name off some bands for me too?
