Believe it or not, I used to take figure skating lessons. I was watching the 2004 Winter Olympics in Turin and basically fell in love with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno and I told my mom, "Let me have skating lessons so I can meet Apolo at the Olympics!" Unfortunately he was already engaged to another speed skater at that time, but it was a good excuse to get skating lessons...haha.

I don't watch TV much, but I love movies. I like some horror movies, but I prefer suspense/mystery because I don't like gore. I actually like Alfred Hitchcock's movies - they're not that scary but he's a great storyteller.

Some bands I like: Metric, Au Revoir Simone, Nightwish (! I went to a concert of their's), Bloc Party, The Shins, Coldplay, The Sounds, The Lovemakers, Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, The Blow (really not as bad as it sounds), Fischerspooner, Charlotte Church (I also like some classical), Hayley Westenra...generally pretty obscure stuff.

I wish my mom was like that, lol. Most of the stuff I generally own (I dont get lessons- you need a constant supply of money for something like that) i bought myself, so.... Yeah ive never seen an ice skating rink.

The gore for me is okay- but im not really a fan of the really gory stuff. The Lost Boys is a vampire movie, but there is almost no gore- its a cult classic.

I actually looked up those bands like a nerd. Most of it is okay. You seem to like the female vocal type stuff - you might want to check out Tori Amos, Within Temptation, Xandria etc. Im not really a fan of coldplay, but I generally go for the more depressed sounding classical stuff. Aint nothing wrong with that.

But then, I go really obscure and weird sometimes too:

Honestly, I probably should have been a teenager in the 80s.

..and my parents ruined the World of Warcraft thing for me, sorry...... They're still trying to get me to install it on a Linux box so they know they can switch.

Yeah I like Tori Amos - her Little Earthquakes album is fantastic...so I looked up Within Temptation and it's pretty good. Actually I only like one Coldplay song (Viva la Vida). Yeah, I generally like depressed sounding classical stuff too...actually Nightwish is great for that...I like the opera-sounding voice [read: Tarja fan, though Anette isn't bad either] with modern rock. Have you heard of Mediaeval Baebes? They're kind of interesting...though medieval lol.

Dramatical, Juliet, you two and I sound pretty similar-- I'm in HSS and I'll be a Creative Writing/H-CI dual major :) I daresay it sounds like I'll get along with everyone at CMU so far! I haven't read a single desc of someone and gone "I won't be able to handle this person" yet.

I was raised Christian, but renounced it years ago and am comfortable with my odd mix of agnostic mannerisms and Daoist principles. I'm a huge game geek (I want to design games someday!) but I try to keep it under hat so I'm not an uber nerd. I love people and I love to socialize, and I'm incredibly creative-- I play instruments, paint, write, draw, dance, whatever. And I totally get the 'messy but not dirty' mentality... I'm the same way. My room's cluttered, but I know precisely where everything is at any given moment.

Also, if you like Nightwish, you might like therion (be choosy with albums, the sound changes a lot- you are looking for Sirius B and Lemuria- or any of the later stuff.). They are less "poppy", though.

Hmmm, I don't think girls and guys are allowed to room together. But I might be wrong.

Anyway, I plan on being a Creative Writing/Psychology major, although I'm definitely keeping my options open (French major seems pretty cool too!). I am a Christian, I'm kinda shy at first but once I get to know people I'm a lot more comfortable and talkative. I love listening to people and knowing what bothers them and what makes them happy (not in a nosy way, I promise), and I try to help them out if I can. Ummm, I like reading, I like Girl Scout cookies, and I like playing piano, whether it's Chopin or Jim Croce. I also like watching movies and TV (The Princess Bride is currently my favorite movie). I think my musical tastes are pretty eclectic: classical, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Queen, Coldplay, Jim Croce (as mentioned above!), John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Billy Joel, othersss that I can't think of right now. Like some have said, I'm also messy but not dirty, much to my mother's dismay. Anything else...I like sunshine, ice cream, and nice people. Which you all seem to be :)

If the policy is still the same as a year or two ago when I last heard updates on it, they've reserved Shady Oak as "gender neutral" housing. Shady Oak is an apartment building a bit off of campus, closer to North Oakland. Generally there's 2-4 people in an apartment, and, before, CMU required all residents to be of the same gender. Now they are gender-blind for who lives in the apartments. That means if you want, you can have two guys in one bedroom, and one girl in the single, or a guy/girl bedroom and one of the guys with his own. CMU doesn't care, and they don't want to be told.

Anyway, if you really want to live co-ed, just move off campus. It's cheaper anyway.

Back when I was in Junior high, my parent was the head of making sure girl scout cookies went to the right places in the state/area. A lot of them ended up not getting picked up, and we had cases and cases of the stuff sitting in our living room. Needless to say, I had some fun eating those. :)

Well I'd probably prefer co-ed housing, simply because guys are easier to get along with (at least for me). I'd like an arrangement with maybe 2 rooms-single and double- where I have the single and the guys have the double. I think that'd be fun :)
