So I plan on doing a double major in English and Biology. I got into Liberal Arts Honors and everything but i'm still unsure on a couple of things. Do i need to be enrolled in both the college of liberal arts and natural sciences? And how hard will something like this be to do? Will it take longer than 4 years or do I need to do summers as well? Any help is appreciated.

Are you coming in with credit by exam or college credits taken during high school? If no credit at the start, it will be hard to fit in both without some extra time.

You can use the 2008-2010 catalog to list out everything you will need for an English degree and then add the number of additional classes you need for a bio degree, then see the total number of credits you will need; subtract any credit by exam or previous credit and see if it will fit into 8 semesters.

If you have no prior credit and are really trying to be efficient and graduate in four years, you might eventually decide to go for a bio major in Natural Sciences with an English minor+ in the college of liberal arts. The English “major” adds quite a few distribution requirements because it is in the college of liberal arts. By English minor+, I mean you could take more English classes than are required for a minor but not quite everything needed for the B.A. with an English major.

You don’t have to decide on this right away. Freshman year, take classes you would need if you were going to be a double major, and only take electives that you would need for graduation with the bio degree. Enjoy freshman year in LAH.

I should get credit for both of the English ap exams I took. Also I’ll get credit for calculus and us history. If I do well on the government and economics exams I mght be able to get credit for those this year as well. Thanks for your reply. It’s certainly lookng more doable now.
