Double Majoring Between Schools

Is it possible to double major between schools, such as the School of Comm and the School of Education & Social Policy? Or to get a major in Comm Studies and minor in Social Policy? Or can you only double major/minor with WCAS?

You can only double major between WCAS and another school, or within WCAS. You can do WCAS-Comm but not SESP-Medill, etc. And you must be IN the non-WCAS school to do this.

Minors are a bit more flexible (I'm SESP with a minor in film/media studies, which is Comm), but I'm not sure to what extent.

actually i asked around and if you have a good reason and show motivation they'll make exceptions and let you double major across two smaller schools (non-wcas)

I would think this would be easiest with a school like SESP standing in for WCAS, though. I can't imagine them ever OKing Medill + RTVF double major. But still- that's pretty interesting, and good to know.

Just a sidenote but dfleish- what is the minor in film and media studies like? What kinds of courses and focus are part of the minor? I was interested in it and was looking for a little more info than on the website.

I wonder how feasible a double major in CS and Economics would be...
I remember reading the NU Viewbook from a year ago and seeing someone doing the same thing, so it's been done before. Hmm...

I'm applying to the School of Comm, so is it okay to talk about wanting to double major between SoC and SESP in the "Why NU" essay, then? I didn't want to seem like I didn't know what I was talking about.

Um.... I don't know. I wouldn't, because it's definitely not a given that it's going to work out. You can talk about how you love NU's diverse renowned departments, and the fact that while you'll be in the school of Comm, you look forward to taking advantage of its other renowned schools, particularly SESP, and taking elective classes from them, or something to that effect.

dcb, it's pretty much what the website says. It's not a study of production but more about analyzing media as an art. The classes I have taken for it so far are Analyzing Media Texts, Media Contexts (study of pop cuture/"culture"), and Film Authorship (Hitchcock). It's not at all useful for life but I just find it really interesting.
