Heh, I don’t even drink soda. I just don’t care for it.

My family is Italian, so alcohol (vino, etc) was always around. If we wanted a drink growing up while with my parents/family, we took one. It was never really hard core pressured to never drink until we are 21. I do believe because of how easy going and open my parents were, we never got too crazy with alcohol. We were always around it and it just was never a big deal…just part of a meal or whatever! As long as we were with my parents and not in a car, we were good!

I think 21 as a legal drinking age is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown up somewhere where you just have to be 18, but the concept of (in some states) being able to drive five years before you’re allowed to drink and being allowed to vote three years before you’re allowed to drink is really quite stupid.

Not that the laws deter anyone.

I drink with my friends sometimes. Nothing heavy, but it lightens up the atmosphere and it just feels right at a birthday dinner or whatever. I’ve gotten wasted exactly once, at the only party I’ve ever been to. That wasn’t much fun.

I tend to dislike “Frat Party Drinks” like Cheap Beer (The beverage that some people refer to as ‘Natty Ice’ taste like a Yak’s urine after a hefty dose of asparagus). I don’t like Vodka/Tequila much for that matter either. In fact the only party drink that I do like is Sambuca (Flaming Sambuca)

On the other hand, I maintain that a Pimm’s on a hot day is the most refreshing thing is the world. A good G&T is nice (except in winter) and as many people have said above wine is good.

I drink with my friends, at parties and kickbacks. My parents don’t know, and I’d like to keep it that way. And i don’t drink all that much either… Maybe I’ll get drunk at most 1-2 times a month. It’ll probably change in college though.

^same. that is if you mean increase the amount in college.

It seriously is no big deal. I have only been legitimately smashed (falling over, singing, etc.) once. I won’t do that again unless I am with my two best friends.

A lot of people who don’t drink think you lose complete control, which is false. I have sobered up instantly in the surprise presence of an adult more than once. Hell, me and my other nerd friend who is a physics major did calc last time we drank.

You don’t technically lose control in the sense that some people think. Short-term effects of moderate alcohol consumption inhibit your judgment and cause reward systems in your brain to become more active - you are perfectly capable of stating your actions and their consequences should you be asked, but simply don’t care enough to worry about them. So if I jump off a roof and into a pool, it’s because I’ve always wanted to jump off a roof and into a pool but always deemed it too dangerous or whatever to follow through.

This is opposed to acting in a completely unrestrained manner, in such a way that the person absolutely has no idea and no thought whatsoever on his actions. Although both scenarios do pose obvious potential risks.

I don’t personally drink, but I have some experience on the topic. My boyfriend’s brother broke into our high school a few years ago when he was drunk and smashed all the windows and the trophy cases, stole money from the bookkeeper’s office, and stole a bunch of random athletic equipment…all without noticing that there were security cameras on. Not exactly my definition of something he had always wanted to do but never had the guts for.

ya i agree completely with the above stated stuff^

“Drunk statements/actions are sober thoughts”
I’ll leave you with that.

^ Very well put.

Yep. 10char

Eh, I drink plenty with my parents, and some with my peers. But school rules are pretty strict, so it’s usually at a day student’s house. Never been wasted, that’s just stupid. Yeah, my parents let me drink with them since I was like 12 to avoid problems.

i’m using this.

Of course you are…

I only have alcohol at one place.

The Catholic Church.

Haha, hardly counts, though. (But, a few years ago, a lawyer once yelled at a visiting Polish priest for giving me, an alter server, some of the wine, saying the priest would get sued.)

smartassness at its finest. i like it.

Rum and beer all the way, parents know I drink, and they don’t care as long as I am responsible and don’t do stupid things. Never been wasted or blacked out, been tipsy though.

My parents don’t care if I drink but I don’t.

I don’t drink because coke tastes better than any alcohol I’ve tried. I don’t see the point in drinking. Plus, my liver’s been good to me, so I return the favor.
