Ok, I now this may seem nuts but we are driving down tomorrow from the atlanta area to look at the campus. My son has the free tuition scholarship, he is seriously considering it however we have not been there yet and he wants to see what things are like on a game day. We did this last week at Auburn. We are not going to the game just want to get the “feel” for the campus. Any suggestions on where to park, eat and what to see or avoid?

Where to park? Yikes. Ok…park at the Soccer Fields by the Student Health Center. Unfortunately, it’s going to cost you $20 because it’s game day. Then you’ll take the Crimson Ride to the Quad and walk around, etc. The Crimson Ride will take you back to the Soccer Field when you want.

there will a few places to eat on the Quad…Full Moon BBQ has a tent…usually on the East Side of the Quad…near Lloyd Hall.

You can walk around The Strip (west of the Stadium) for more places to eat.

After the game, many places will be super busy serving dinner to the various fans…Midtown Village, The Strip and Downdown will be super busy. Sometimes if you cross the river into Northport, the restaurants are far less busy on game days.

Thank you. What would be the latest we should arrive in order to get parking?

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Typically traffic gets very light close to kickoff. You should be able to park any time. Just depends on how far you want to walk. Things will be VERY quiet around town and on campus during the game. You could easily find a restaurant during the game, maybe with a TV to watch the game in progress. Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy! OTOH, if you are heading back through B’ham, traffic is a zoo from the 4th quarter on. It’ll depend on how the game is going. You might want to hit the road well before the end of the game.
