Do you have any suggestions about driving schools close to school? I am staying in Rodin. Thanks

Might I ask why you need to go to a driving school?

I have the same question! I still don’t know how to drive because I’ve been living overseas.

I am an international student and I need to get US driving license. My driving license from my country does not work in US.

why do you need to drive, though, in general - and would you have car insurance valid in the united states, which is mandatory

I am pretty sure that if you are over a certain age (18?) you don’t need to actually go to a driving school. You can learn to drive with a friend and then just go and take your test. If you can already drive as you suggest, I believe it’s possible just to take the test. I am not 100% sure about this, but it is what my parents did when they moved to the US.

As to above, driver’s licenses are useful for lots of things other than driving, and if you don’t want insurance you can always use Philly Car Share, which will provide you insurance.

wish phillycarshare had remained free for basic membership =(

Yeah, honestly I don’t see much need at all for a driver’s license in Philadelphia. On Penn’s campus you’re close to taxis, seven bus routes, four subway surface trolley routes and the Market-Frankford Line. If you’re planning on taking a whole bunch of road trips, that’s different. As for getting a US driver’s license, just go to a DMV, take a test for a learner’s permit, and the next day you can take a driver’s test… not sure what you’d use for a car, but yeah.

I think you don’t have any need of driving now. If you are below 18 then you are not eligible for the driving license. If you are over 18 then i suggest you a good driving school but in UK. They give you online training and provide you some driving books and DVD’s. I also take some training from them. If you want then check it [Driving Lessons DVDs|DSA Driving Instructions Manual to Pass your Driving Test](http://www.allnewdrivers.com)

given that we are on the topic of driving, does anyone know how parking is at Penn? Are freshman even allowed parking, or is it like many other colleges where you have to be an upperclassman for a parking permit

Both my kids attended driving school. I wanted them to learn driving the correct way, not from hand-me-down instructions.

To the OP, google and call some of the driving schools in Philadelphia. They will come to pick you up at the dorm after you get your learner’s permit.

I saw some positive reviews at yahoo for Pauls Driving School.
