Drop Calculus and retake next quarter, or take the C?

So I haven't been doing too well in my Calculus class, and at the rate I'm going, I'm probably going to get a C at best in the course. I know the importance of grades in transfer admissions, and I was wondering if I should just drop the course now and get a notation on my transcript ("withdrew on week 9", I'm on the quarter system) and retake the class next quarter, or if I shouldn't bother, and just get the C; in which case, I'd be stuck with the grade. I need a C- or lower if I want to retake the course.

If for whatever reason I get a grade lower than a C, that grade shows up on my transcript even if I retake the course. If I get the C, that's stuck there too. If I drop the course, the notation will be there instead, which I suppose could be assumed to mean I dropped the course because I was failing.

I'm getting an A and B in my other courses. My high school stats are otherwise great, and I've got good essays in the works. I just want to maximize my chances with what I have, and I don't want to about making any mistakes in the process. I'm asking this from the perspective of a transfer applicant and pre-med. I really don't know what to do.

Exact same situation as me. I think I’m going to take the C because I don’t want to repeat the course. It’s going to hurt me, but we’ll see.

It all depends on your situation. If the calc course is a pre-requisite for a physics course and its the only C you would get then it doesn’t matter. Just pass the class. I have 4 C’s right now, two from Moorpark college and two from CSUN. There is nothing I can do about them. You will be taking alot of units for pre-med along with the general major classes and GE classes. There is no point in worrying over it.

If the best you can get is a C, then I think you should withdraw ASAP.

Calculus is one of the most important courses. If you can withdraw now, you should do it.

poke, it matters because these first quarter grades might be all that shows up on transcript when I send it in to transfer. I’m not sure if second quarter grades will, since my app’s due during finals week for my second quarter…

Thanks to the both of you for your advice! Hopefully seeing ambiguity on my progress in Calc trumps seeing a bad grade. >.>;
