Drop or Fail UCI Pre-req?

I am currently in Calculus, which is a pre-req for my soc major to UCI. Things aren't going too well in the class and I am expecting a D at the end of the semester. My question is, should I just drop the class and receive a W or get the D?

I would take the class again next semester but my CC unfortunately provides this class every other semester.

^^Drop it! Calculus is not required for Sociology for UCI. They only put “Calculus” because there wasn’t a math class that fit their criteria. One of the forum members talked to a UCI counselor about this recently and said you do not need calculus. You’ll just take the sociology math class over at UCI – which is either statistics or etc.

Drop the class. Its worst to repeat a failed class then repeat a class you were not able to finish… If you are applying to UCI this semester it can make things a bit complicated though… if you only need Calc 1 then if i were you I would drop the class and put the class into your planned course work for next semester (which will be your only and last chance to redeem yourself for the class)

Also I know several majors have certain criteria: ie – If repetition of more than 1 preparatory class occurs then the student will be dismissed or denied from the department

I’m a CCC student with 2 W’s on my transcript… looked into a bit… but you definitely don’t want more than 2 Ws on your transcript and it would be even better to have only 1 W.

The D will also lower your GPA – STAY AWAY FROM THAT

drop it. trust me you dont want the d. i got a d last spring and got my admission rescinded

I had 19 Ws. Don’t trip about it.

19 Ws??? How the hell lol?

^^ okay i dont even know how u got 19? thats like dropping every class…

This would be my first and last W, not as near to the 19 that has been mentioned :stuck_out_tongue: I’m going to call UCI admissions and see if they can confirm to me that calc is indeed needed. I took and passed statistics and saw how it relates to soc, but I see no reason for calculus in this field.

My kidney failed. Then I relapsed. But a few were random Ws also.

Dang rough stuff.

I called UCI admissions and was told I did not need calculus as a soc transfer. Looks like I will be dropping. Thanks for the help everyone.
