Dropped out of UC, CC, then transfer

Hey guys,

My friend is lazy as hail so I'm posting for him. Last year (his freshmen year) he attended UCR for two quarters and then dropped out. He ended up receiving mediocre grades and maybe two F's. Now, he is attending SMC with a pretty good GPA and is wanting to apply to some UC's (LA, Irvine, Cal, etc..). I believe he will be applying for winter admission and was wondering what he should do regarding the two F's that he received last year. Do the UC's have a system of automatically checking for enrollment at previous schools if he chooses not to report ever going to UCR (maybe saying he took a year off until going to SMC)? Could he take extention classes at UCLA to replace the failed courses this summer?

If anyone has had any experience dealing with stuff like this it would be much appreciated if you could chime in. Thanks!

I really dislike these threads asking if someone should be dishonest or not.

He needs to report all schools that he attended and the classes he took and the grades he received in them. They have a system of making sure you are being honest by checking the National Student Clearing House. If they find out he lied, he will get in nowhere. If he has significantly improved in CC, they will consider that in admission decisions. People with lower than average GPAs with a huge upward trend always get into the UCs. And I do think he can retake the classes he received F’s in and I think they need to be at the University he took them originally.

Yeah Cali is right… I don’t have experience of going to a UC first but I went to an out of state CC and got marginal grades (2.6) but my last quarter there was all A’s and B’s, came back to California and went to a CC and got straight A’s for two semesters taking 16 credits each semester and got into UCI. So I was able to pull it off and I’m sure your friend will be able to, he just has to take it serious from now on. Lying about going to UCR and doing badly or even lying at all is a HORRIBLE idea. If he gets caught then he has no chance of going to a UC.

No one really knows if they check every single applicant or admit. We have no evidence or testimony of someone who applied without disclosing all their schools and got rejected because of that. We’re just inductively assuming that it can happen, probably has happened, and may happen to your friend.

Btw, tell your friend he can’t apply to Cal or UCLA for winter, they only accept Fall applications.

Your friend needs not lie. It’s relatively easy to get into a better UC than UCR, provided he isn’t applying for impacted majors. Be honest. He won’t get rejected if he has the qualifications.

Well what do you mean by he dropped out? If he didn’t leave in good academic standing then (correct me if I’m wrong someone) he won’t be admitted to any in the UC system.

Theres a pretty decent chance he’ll get caught . I went to UCSB then DVC and applied to UCs. They ask you whether or not you’re in good standing with previous institutions and they’re going to ask about that gap in his education on the uc app. If you are a strong applicant UCR and UCM will sometimes admit you even if you didn’t apply. What are they gonna do when they try to admit him and they look and see theres someone by that name,SSN, and address already in their records?
