Dual-Enrollment Nightmare

Hi yall. I am a dual-enrollment student who is so disatisfied that I am actually thinking about not sending those grades to fsu. I plan to attend law school-extremely competitive and I have performed so badly that -2.5- that not even if the impossible were to happen and most of my grades were A's would i reach the goal which i intially had.

Should I start over and loose 24 credt hours-nearly $8000?
or
Should I just keep those grades and demonstrate an upward trend once I've left the H.S enviorment.

My son did AP and CLEP and high SAT score credits so I have no experience with dual enrollment. It sure would be nice to drop the two "D" grades at least. It would be a shame for you to have to lose so many credits. The more credits you come in with, the better registration position you get (unless you are in honors which gets top priority registration). Also, you would be a lot closer to having your liberal studies requirements done. You need to find out how FSU calculates your GPA because it is very competitive to get into law school and 2.5 would definitely not be enough.

With AP/IB, CLEP and high SAT score credits, the student gets credit for the classes but there is no impact on the FSU GPA. You need to find out about dual enrollment by contacting admissions.

"Admission to the College of Law is a competitive process. The median GPA for applicants enrolled in our 2006 entering class is 3.44, and the median Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score is 159."

Please let us know what admissions says about how the FSU GPA is calculated with dual enrollment.

I have contacted FSU before-when I had the feeling I would not do so wel- and basically it counts as college courses. The C.College doesnt give +/- and so that is how it will transfer as a c not c+. I have also contacted the lsac -Law School Admissioin Council and every grade that I have received as a "college student" regardless if its dual-emrollment or not will be sent to the law school.

The only question I have is if I have the option of sending those grades to FSU or if its mandatory. Also i wasn't thinking of FSU for law, more like the top tier, I'm from NY, so this makes matters worse-)more competition

I think you find FSU's law school to be quite competitive as is.

See: http://www.law.fsu.edu/prospective_students/admissions/index.html

It sounds like if you submit all of your former community college course work that it will adversely impact your college GPA from what you are saying. You will really need to work hard to get the kind of GPA you will need for law school admission.

You will find that you will have even more distractions when you are away at the university. You need to get in the mindset now that you will attend all classes, be organized, take all extra credit opportunities, read assignments and study if you want to succeed. I have heard of numerous very bright honors students who will not be able to come back in the Fall due to what I call "lack of focus". Make up your mind from the start that you will not be one of them.

Does your CC have grade forgiveness if you retake a "D" or "F" course and get a higher grade? FSU does not do this anymore, they have early and late drop instead.

If the CC has a grade forgiveness policy, maybe you can retake the two "D" classes this summer at your CC and submit the new, improved grades to FSU before you start in the Fall. Make sure you use ratemyprofessors.com to select a good professor for each of the courses so you have the best chance to improve those low grades.

I hope this idea works for you.

thank you ;)

Thank you all for your help...I've decided to decline FSU's admission and have enlisted in the U.S.M.C ( United States Marine Corps). Thank you all once again ;)

Wow! Best of luck to you. I appreciate your service to our country.
