Duke and likely letters

"I am wondering if anyone who got a likely letter from Duke was nominated for the Robertson Scholarship?"

I was sort of nominated for the Robertson Scholarship, they contacted me when I arrived home from Boys Nation last summer. With that said, I haven't gotten a likely letter or anything similar, all I've had was an alumni interview.

i got one today, if y'all care to know

Congratulations!

thanks, now they pay for me to go to the Duke campus with 349 other admits...60 of us get scholarships

Mallomar Cookie - what state do you live in? I am wondering what states migth have received them and if they are still going out to appicants in other states. Were you nominated for the Robertson Scholar program? I am wondering if they went out to any of those nominated. Congratulations

Duke's early decision apps. wre down over 20%. Is there a similiar low count for their RD app.?

No .

Mallomar,
I recognize your posts and have always found you to be very reliable and knowledgeable, so when you write that you got a likely letter, then OMG!!!! The letters are out there!!! Please give us more details!! Is it a likely letter or the Robertson or both? They are having you go to the campus? Let us know!!
Congrats to you, that's fantastic!

RD apps down 4.6% at DUKE for 2011--this is not a terribly significant drop because last year was a record high, and this year is the 2nd-highest. Other institutions had similar drops--Yale, for example.

collegebound: my letter was dated Jan. 31 and was called "2007 Early Notification."
As for the Robertson...as far as I know, there are no nominations for this program. you have to apply to guarantee that you're considered for it (although the admissions offices at UNC and Duke do pick some admissions applicants to be considered for it, you can't guarantee that you'll be considered for it unless you do the application). Robertson semifinalist decisions are made by the end of this month, according to them they are going to be calling semifinalists in early March.

Edit: powderpuff, thanks.

Many speculate that Duke was down ED due to bad publicity re: lacrosse party scandel. I suspect Yale dropped 15% in ED apps. due to publicity regarding last year's 8.5% overall acceptance rate-students decided not to "waste" their only ED shot. But Duke and Yale are the only drops I know of-any others?

Early Notification?
What did the bulk of the letter say, if I may ask?

does duke send likely letters out multiple times? for example, i heard that dartmouth sends some out in the beginning, middle and end of feb....does duke do the same, or if we dont hear in this batch are we waiting until april?

Sounds like a question for the admissions office...I wouldn't presume to know

They are sent out over the whole month unless they have changed policy - I think you could get one up until about March 1.

I got one of those Jan 31st "Visit Duke for Free" 1 out of 350 letters today.

me too! (10char)

is there a difference between what I got and a likely letter?

I think what we both got was considered a "likely letter"

Also wondering...I know Duke offers some (very competitive) merit scholarship options...anyone know much about how much is available?

Check out this thread =P

all of us who got likely letters will get invited to duke soon. Most of us will be invited to Duke Up Close. Some of us will be invited to a scholarship finalist weekend instead. Scholarship finalist people will be notified by mid-March according to the letter...I hope I'm a scholarship finalist :)
