Duke and likely letters

Are there different rounds of these likely letters?
I just had my interview tonight...Is there any chance whatsoever of not having to wait until April?

^ not really sure :-\

jegan, if I was in your position I couldn't care less about getting a Duke letter!

where is UVA???

Charlottesville, Virginia.

ohh university of virgina??

Yeppers!!!

Haha, 2o_o7, it's purely for financial reasons. I'd go to Yale without looking back, but they gave me nothing in financial aid, not even any loans. That's a bitter pill to swallow. A $40K+ per year pill, if you will.

I'm just worried that if I don't get a likely letter, it probably means no scholarship possibilities at Duke. Sigh.

If you haven't sent your scores yet does that mean absolutely no hope at all for getting a likely letter?

It would be very unlikely because I'm sure that grades and test scores are used to make initial cuts.

If I already received a likely letter from Duke should I still take up the offer for an interview? Is this a strategic move to potentially qualify for a scholarship? Or will this only hurt my chances? Thanks.

Why not? It wouldn't hurt you to learn more about Duke. Interviews don't take that long.

I doubt it would make a difference. The main basis for determining merit scholarship recipients is the scholarship interview. The alumni interview is very unlikely to come into play. Don't get me wrong- the alumni interview is a great way to get to know another side of Duke. Just don't expect it to win you a scholarship.

I had an interview today and I'm all the more psyched to visit now. It was her first interview and we were just really casual and laughed a lot. We joked about the sheet of stuff she wasn't supposed to say and what not. Totally boxed her out to pay for her drink, and then proceeded to eventually spill some coffee on my shirt... laughed it off too... Hahaa it was really fun.

Got to hear a lot about just the atmosphere and student life... in a totally informal way.

The best part of my interview was when my interviewer said, "Let's face it-- Durham sucks." All of that effort Duke had put into promoting Durham as a collage town--wasted.

Hahaa. Well I mean I'm glad my interviewer didn't sugarcoat it. She was real and that was awesome. Plus... she went through some of what I'm prolly gonna go through with major changes and social scenes and the general craziness of college.

It's okay, she said Duke itself is a big enough bubble that you don't need to worry about Durham as much. Especially w/ Chapel Hill and Raleigh around.

honestly...she said Durham sucks?!

It's not the best city in the world, but it definitely is a lot of fun! Most students are just too lazy to go out and be creative and explore all of its awesomeness.

I really don't like how most people just want to live in the bubble, and resign that "Durham sucks", and just stay on campus. Go out and explore, it's not that bad!

end rant

question: how'd they mail the likely letters, ups, usps, or something cooler?

I got mine in a regular envelope via USPS...I assumed it was a "lol we haev all ur stuff" update or something -nothing special.

Yeah same :P

Well minus the "lol" and adding an "OMGOMGOMG"

Ahhh still waiting.
