Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

I do the whole work hard play hard and I usually party with friends on the weekend. And I dont usually classify school stuff and those subjects as “fun” but idk I mean I really like to read and stuff haha so I guess Im both?
Im really into stocks/stock market/investment banking and all that though

That’s really cool.

I’m a nerd. Lol. I love reading and talking about school and what I learned. But I’m also a lover of the arts and history. I’ve been classically trained in opera in four different languages and have been in more than 10 musicals and operas. lol.

@KDavs95 Thats so cool and unique though!

@sraval1002 Word dude story of my life. Hope to see you post your admissions results, it would be chill af if we both got in.

@Leighhopeful - Thank you! My interviewer was pretty impressed. Too bad I didn’t send in a sample. :frowning: I tried too but the frequency of my voice is just too high to be picked up correctly on my Mac. -.-

kdavs - I’m a classically trained singer too! And I’ve done a lot of musical theater as well. Soprano, I assume? I’m a baritone, so the mic picked my voice up nicely  I’m glad to hear that there are other singers out there!

Omg! I’m not alone! Yeah I’m a lyric soprano. I love musical theater too! I’m a huge broadway buff. Did you have your supplement professionally recorded and such?

Hopefully we both get in!

My school has some pretty nice recording instruments so I borrowed the choir room for an hour after school. I was just getting over a cold, so the tape wasn’t as good as I’d liked, but I was overall pretty satisfied. One day maybe we’ll be opposites in a show at Duke! haha

@KDavs95 thats okay Im sure they’ll understand how good your voice is from all the credentials and other stuff on your application!

Ahhh im getting so nervous even though I know its a long shot for me Im still holding onto that bit of hope!

@iman - mine does too. I go to the “FAME” school in New York. I was just too lazy and I tried to do it on my own at home. That was stupid of me. Oh well. Did you get in already?

Got a likely letter yesterday. But I am still holding a conditional offer from Oxford… so… working hard as hell until May’s IB exams.

No, I’m not in; I was just feeling optimistic for once lol.

fallingfromsky - Oxford?? That’s so cool!

Oxford? That’s awesome. Congrats!

Anyone interested in Duke’s bioengineering. It seems to be doing some really great, great things. x.x

^I’ll be going into Bioengineering if I get in. Key word: IF :(

Are you anxious about job opportunities? Or are you banking on Duke’s name and Duke’s connections to get you an entry position?

Yeah I’m interested in bioengineering. It seems to be a hot field right now and has great prospects for future college graduates (us). What do you guys think??

It’s a niche field and it’s not necessarily clear how the field will grow. However, going to a school like Duke which has one of the best BME programs in the world and probably lots of doors into good internships, might make that a less precarious issue.

But even of the BME field, unless you’re generally interested in the field, there’s an even smaller market for your particular interest. For example, I think neuroengineering is really cool. If I went into BME, that would be the reason. But there is no real neuroengineering industry…

I’m wondering when exactly will Duke release decisions.
