Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Hey guys! Just a fellow applicant hoping to hear a confirmed yes this Wednesday!

Hi! I am the mom of a Duke applicant who got in ED and I wanted to tell you guys that we were told that decisions would be online at 6 pm on December 12. My son logged into his account at 5:30 to make sure he didn’t get blocked out because of a surge at 6. He hit refresh a few times. At 5:53 he got the letter. I know decisions come out at 6 on the 27th, so hopefully things will work similarly, except that the numbers of kids checking will be huge, so maybe things will get backed up or stuck… Good luck to all! The waiting must be exasperating!!

So, my email from Duke says “6:00 pm,” not specifying time zone. Is this for sure Eastern time or will they be doing “waves” so that everyone gets it at 6 their time? I’d love to know at 3 Pacific! haha

My logic says 6PM EST.

@harbor that will be cray since there are international applicants as well. 6pm EST is the most logical time.

I thought so - that’s typical, but the omission of a time zone specification had me curious. Thanks guys!

It was 6 PM EST for early decision. Also, this isn’t really that important, but I should add that when I logged in to see my decision, the page said it would refresh automatically, and I actually ended up getting my decision a few minutes before 6 EST.

Students who get accepted or wait listed do they get any credit applied for AP courses they took in HS towards their Degree program…??

My D is at Duke. She passed 11 AP exams mostly with 4’s but Duke only give you something like 2 class credits MAX. If your S or D has a lot of AP’s then going to somewhere like Carolina they could start as a Sophomore but not at Duke. My daughter is graduating now (4 years later).

On the other hand if she had not taken so many and had not done so well she would probably would have not got in. v

Yeah, now that I think about it, I think his page refreshed automatically…

Also, as far as AP’s, he will get some of his AP’s to count toward his requirements, more on the math/science side. He will be attending Pratt. Only two humanities AP’s can count toward his requirement of 5… I think!

Good luck to everyone! The EDers are excited about meeting the rest of the class of 2017!!!

Good luck guys!!!

I thought I’d have to wait until tomorrow, but weirdly, I came back from vacation yesterday with a letter from Duke in my mailbox that I thought was just spam…it was actually a likely letter! I’m surprised they send them out so late - mine was dated March 15 - but I’m still in shock to have gotten one. Feeling really grateful/lucky right now!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow :)

Hey good luck everybody!

Good luck! I am probably getting rejected but who knows?

Hi,

Tomorrow is the D-day and I am freaking out! So one last " Chance me " post. I am an International applicant from India and I require no Financial aid. I have applied to Trinity. I have a SAT score of 2150 ( M 700, CR 730, W 720 ) and a GPA of 3.9. I have a few solid ECs. Can I expect some good news tomorrow? What do you guys think?

Anyway all the very best to all of you! I hope we make it to our dream colleges. :)

americandream13 - You have as decent of a shot as anyone. Chance me posts won’t do any good now! Just cross your fingers for the next 24 hours!

^ I know " Chance me " thread won’t matter anymore but I am just trying to pass my time. I just can’t put my mind into any other thing except the upcoming decisions.

I just hope I can post ** " Accepted! " ** on this thread tomorrow.

Pratt…not expecting much
