hey guys, I got in the website but says I’m unauthorized, anyone has any idea why?

My son got his rejection notice at 6pm. It was the last school he was waiting for and his #1 choice. We knew it was a very big reach. I am happy that he found out so that he can move and start making plans with 8 of the 9 choices that he has. I know he will find the right school and make the best of it. After all rejection is part of life and this won’t break him but make him stronger. As a parent, I was worried about the 62K cost to attend for a year. My take home pay is much less than the COA. I must agree the rejection letter was well written. It is still a disappointment.

Those who are sad remember, life does go on and try to think of all the good things that you have such as other acceptances and merit scholarships.

Congratulations to all accepted students and best of luck to those still waiting for other decisions.

@latinom…

Should we all guess why you were accepted with a Merit scholarship?

It’s funny. When I lived in USSR, I could not get into a top college since I was a Jew. Now my son can’t get into a top college because he is white.

Rejected~ Didn’t know I would be so calm about it. It’s probably because I already got accepted into Rice, my first choice college, so being accepted by Duke was not as big as a deal as I thought it would have been.
Congratulations to everyone who is accepted, and to those who weren’t, well there are always other great colleges!

my D got denied. she’s ok with it. We got ivies tomorrow and more schools on friday. Then its time for discussion!

Good luck to everyone who got accepted!

“You may be wondering what was lacking in your application; for most of our applicants the honest answer is that nothing was lacking.”

Maybe they used a random number generator to determine who gets admitted this year. How else they could make informed decisions if “nothing was lacking” (in terms of application criteria) in applications of those who got redirected. Funny Duke.

I got denied… Not to go on a sad rant but… This truly was the dream school for me. I knew every single aspect about this school and I could only envision myself on that school’s campus and being part of its clubs and activities. My heart is shattered I don’t know how to go on… Really, I could only see myself at this school and to think that I can’t be attending that school next Fall seems unreal- I had envisioned attending this school for so long :’(((( Unsure how to cope with this

I was accepted to Duke University, and completely unexpected it! My scores weren’t that outstanding (31 ACT and 2080 SAT).

To the people who were denied, keep your chin up. I lost hope after being rejected from Rice and Northwestern last Friday, and then all of a sudden, I got accepted to DUKE! There’s still hope out there, don’t worry!

@watchmaster I got in and am white… I wouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions without knowing anything about applicants…

Being white didn’t seem to stop the white 51% of current students at Duke from getting in.

Maybe your son just couldn’t overcome the profound adversity that comes with being white in America like these kids could. It’s too bad.

@watchmaster64 I’m pretty sure that is referring to Latin, the language…

@Philovitist - Disappointing and out of bounds response. There are white’s out there that have actually experienced and overcome adversity far beyond what you posts suggest you have.

An angry post from a frustrated poster. While better not posted better ignored.

Philovitist was obviously talking about race-based adversity.

In any event, I fully support affirmative action for students who have had to suffer through high school Latin classes.

S got rejected (first rejection letter). An hour later he was cheered by an acceptance from Emory. Tomorrow we’ll see about Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton. He has top stats, but does not stand out in terms of ECs. Congratulations to those of you who got in.

I am a strong believer in diversity. That is much different then assuming that if you are white you don’t understand adversity. There are far more whites in poverty then blacks, not as a percentage, but in absolute numbers. If you are the person that is poor, no matter your race, you are poor.

Fact of the matter is Affirmative Action happens and if you’re White or Asian it sucks, but there’s not much we can do about it.

except fight to change the system

AA may occur, but when you’re a poor minority who didn’t get into Duke and you see someone just assuming that his/her son didn’t make it in because of AA, well. Kinda annoys you. Y’know?

Eniloracw, DS got in, too! Are you going to any of the Blue Devils Days? Maybe we will catch up with you there. Congrats!

Yes that is very true alexissss. In the end you will never know why you were admitted/denied, that’s just the way the process works.
