On my financial aid page, I received full ride under “Duke Scholarship Trinity.” Is that the same thing as the Trinity Scholarship? In my financial aid page, the money I got is listed as a grant, and it says it’s a need-based award. So I think it’s financial aid, but I’m really confused right now.

EDIT: Nevermind. The scholarship is only given to NC students, so the thing I got is financial aid.

@alden0611 I guess you are right…Castielyse seems to have received a fantastic scholarship. However, I do know that for the Robertson you have to apply by Dec 1 and are interviewed in March/April, so it seems the page you are looking at is somewhat misleading, I believe that some of those do require an application.

@Castielyse, Wow! Congratulations to you! you can click on the specific scholarship for more information and can see if the award is for all 4 years or if it is a grant for just the coming year.

"Actually, fact of the matter is that this is a far more damaging and dangerous comment than what Philovitist said. This is a subversive assumption that the poster at whom Watchmaster directed such racist comments was not qualified for admission, when, quite frankly, they obviously were.

Watchmaster’s comment was an 11 on the 1-10 offensiveness scale, and any member of any minority would respond accordingly, and should respond accordingly.

But, between the two: watchmaster’s obvious racist statement and assumptions, Philo’s defense, lies your covert assumption that this was AA when it was not. You have plenty of work to do on your own underlying beliefs before you worry about “how” another poster is addressing an offensive comment."

I never assumed nor said that that instance was Affirmative Action, in fact, if you’ll look back you’ll see it’s quite the opposite. I explicitly posted that Watchmaster’s comments were wrong and ridiculous to post without knowing anything about the student. I was simply saying that at the same time, Affirmative Action is a part of the college application process in general and it does hurt the chances of non-minority candidates. That’s a fact. It’s a simple numbers game.

So you’re wrong, both comments were offensive and two wrongs don’t make a right, that was my entire point of these posts. Maybe next time you should read the whole conversation before jumping in and attacking my character without the whole story. I have a problem with people who are racist and attack minorities by saying they got in because of AA. But at the same time I also have a problem with people who knee jerk react and throw back that same hate the other direction, and just because it’s being directed at white people doesn’t mean it’s not hurtful or wrong.

Megamen, I did read the entire thread, and what you are failing to understand, because you believe you have already examined your assumptions, though you are too young to have done so, is that to attack Philovitist and then to make that statement I quoted is counterproductive.

It’s not a knee jerk response. It’s a thought out response. The seemingly innocuous statement about affirmative action in the middle of a discussion about a racist comment is, quite frankly, supportive of the AA remark, by default.

Also, I’m white.

But, I don’t want to do this to this thread. So, if you want, I will report all race related comments to the mods, mine as well, and we can just have them removed. Actually, I think I will do that.

Some people recognized me from CC when I typed in my email to get a ppt for this class I was visiting during the Finalist Weekend. I’ve been exposed!

These BN people are amazing. I was leaning toward Princeton, but the people I’ve met here are exactly the sort of people I’ve always wanted to be around. They’re just so…passionate.

Philovitist - my son described all the amazing kids he met - current and potential new scholars. I think I also picked you out and I wasn’t even there! What an amazing opportunity!

My D is admitted to Duke. In her 2nd semester she has got B in Calculus and History. She has got A until now in all her semesters. Will getting B’s in 2 subjects, Calculus and History affect her final transcript. And will that affect her admission into Duke that is will her duke admission be rescinded because of B’s. any guidance. ???

I would not think it would happen either, from talking to the kids my son met on our visits. One of those kids I think even had a D, and he got a sort of probation, but he was fully informed and knew what he had to do. They didn’t just strip away his acceptance and send him on his way. He’s there at Duke and all is well. Should be fine!
