@identification sorry about that person’s rudeness. Congrats!!!
So this hasn’t been discussed recently… WHEN ARE WE GETTING DECISIONS
Wait, what the heck. Duke and Berkeley are now releasing decisions on Ivy Day and Stanford is releasing them AFTER Ivy Day? Is that even normal lol I don’t think that’s happened before in the past… Can anyone confirm?
@Houston1021 @waitingmomla My son got the legacy letter also – and he was deferred ED – so I think it’s just a letter for the parents to feel like Duke really cares about legacy (which they do, but it will only double or triple your chances to 20% - 30% admit, not guarantee you). However, if this is a “likely letter” I’m happy to be wrong!
Did you receive the letter like the others on Feb. 27th-after you son’s deferal?
I do not think the 2/27 letter was a likely letter but instead was a PR piece sent out to alumni. I received a very similar letter from my alma mater Vanderbilt’s alumni relations department. I did not read too much into either letter. On the Duke web site it says legacy applications get an extra round of review. Even so, admission to Duke is very difficult. We are not counting our chickens until they are hatched.
DD received that letter a few years ago from the university where she is a double legacy. Then she was waitlisted and eventually rejected. There is no meaning in that letter except the university’s desire for you to continue to give whether your kid gets in or not.
CAN SOMEONE PLS DM me Duke’s RD 2021 Groupme link? Thanks a lot
It’s definitely not the 30th. Way too late. I’d be shocked lol. I guessed before that it would be the 23rd
@Steglitz90 Thanks for your answer. I’m just curious, what makes you think legacy doubles or triples your chances for acceptance at Duke? I hope you are correct, I’m just wondering what makes you say this? We are also trying to not count our chickens, but it’s hard not to hope
I believe these numbers are for class of 2020:
ED admit rate (overall): 23%
ED admit rate (legacy): 35%
RD admit rate (overall): 10%
RD admit rate (legacy): 16%
Thanks @bucketDad – I knew I had seen the #s somewhere. Basically, if the overall admit rate is 11%, legacy kids have 3x that in ED & 1.5x that in RD. I definitely had seen #s that legacy kids have the best shot during ED. I can’t help but feel, however, that our son’s ED deferral was a courtesy deferral. Luckily, he has a merit scholarship offer at one of his top 3 choices & is still waiting to hear from USNA, so he will do just fine & be happy, even if not at Duke. (But I’m still crossing my fingers for Duke!)
My admissions officer asked me for additional information on the h.s. activities I’m involved in today. Is this a good sign?
did Duke sent scholarship notifications last week or this week, especially AB Duke?
@srk2017, yes, they went out. People posted awhile back about it.
Anyone get anything for the Reginaldo Howard scholarship?
In case anyone was wondering, I looked back at last year’s thread and decisions results were released on March 24th at 7 pm online (this was on a Thursday). So I’m guessing if it’s consistent, this year’s decisions may come out next week March 23rd (a Thursday) or the 24th on a Friday
@oneandonlyx, I emailed the oufs about that scolarship last weekend, and they said finalists had been notified. Bummer.
@MissAnthropy, March 30th according to this article: https://today.duke.edu/2016/12/duke-accepts-861-early-decision-applicants
