My counselor forwarded me the email. 600 more applicants, drop from 25% to 20% overall I’m pretty sure.
Ok, this doesn’t make any sense. Think about it. Colleges are not allowed to release that kind of confidential information to just one person. They release it to everyone, in general, all at once in one report. They realistically can’t give it just to just one guidance counselor- it makes no sense.
Also, like everyone else is saying, there’s no reason/possibility for there to be such a jump in applicants. I think we’re all really on edge, so let’s just wait it out. It’s only a couple days away.
@segovia pics or it aint real
@luvinit @segovia did the email only talk about the percent accepted? was there other info in the email as well?
Why would one email say 1000 more applicants and the other say 600?
If your counselor actually forwarded you the email, why would you say you are “pretty sure”?
“Greetings from Durham…[blah blah]… I’d like to provide a little context for our decisions. We received almost 4100 Early Decision applications this year, nearly 600 more than last year. We expect to fill roughly 850 spaces–about half of the class–which means our Early Decision admit rate will be slightly over 20%. That’s a meaningful decrease from last year’s 25%. After having the chance to review…[blah blah so lucky blah blah everyone is accomplished wish we could accept more etc].”
@amandalis3344 pretty sure it was the numbers overall. believe what you want to believe. we’ll find out in 2 days.
so did they send that to everyone’s counselor? Should I ask mine?
@orangeandblack21 I’m asking mine tomorrow
i hate this
im so tense
Are any of you applying from NorCal?
Do they have quotas by region?
Also guys I feel like I’m going to throw up I need to chill but I can’t
I don’t think they have quotas but the admissions officer assigned to each region gets a say in who they think is a good fit from what I’ve heard. They advocate for the people they like in committee (correct me if anyone has heard anything different)
Yes! @1256asas
My counselor didn’t say anything
if all this is true, then its about a 17% increase from last year, which I guess isnt unreasonable?
I still don’t think that’s reliable if only one person got it
