Duke Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

That seems like a lot to me. Duke is an amazing school, obviously, but most people ED to the more well known top schools like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, ETC. It seems strange that without a basketball championship the number would increase that much. On the other hand Duke has had one of the higher ED acceptance rates so it is a better bet for people who aren’t valedictorian, have crazy stats, etc… maybe that’s it?

If you google Duke early decision there is an article that says the ed acceptance rate dropped to 20%

i thought they couldn’t release this kind of information before

Duke Early Decision Acceptance Rate Drops to 20 Percent - https://admissionsintel.com/duke-early-decision-admissions-rate-drops-to-20-percent/

I don’t understand how there was this much of a jump. Also, why did the email only go to certain counselors? Did this counselor request this information? Has Duke admissions released this information already? Needless to say, I am not a lock to get in, so this new development is quite troubling. :frowning:

ughhhhhhh not fairrrrrrr

well great

This is very unsettling might as well say good bye to chances of being admmitted

the odds are so against people who aren’t the most accomplighed

This is going to sound horribly depressing but for me at least I think I was getting my hopes up too much… maybe this is a nice and slow way to ease into it. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than utterly disappointed

also duke does have certain quotas based on regions. I found that out at the Duke NC/SC open house. they explained to us that more applicants are admitted from certain regions (for example, NC and SC have previously had RD acceptance rates of 13.45% rather than the regular 7-9% for other states because of an endowment obligation). along with that, they have to make certain quotas for male/female, ethnicity, etc.

I feel like in the past ED for Duke has been a way for students who don’t have completely mind-blowing accomplishments to get into their dream school but I think now it’s shifting to be more like the other ED schools where it doesn’t make a crazy difference

Sorry for being depressing guys lol I just needed to get it out

Honestly, I’m gonna look at it like this. No matter what the acceptance rate is, Duke was gonna admit the best 850 that applied. I’m just gonna look at my odds from the positive side—Black Male in engineering from SC—and pray to God that I get in.

is anyone here from texas? my interviewer said I was the only one he interviewed for early decision this year

Honestly this is the worst wait of my entire life

This is so frustrating!! ahhhh. I thought I had a chance with ED, but now I’m depressed before even getting officially rejected

I’m applying from SC too lol @reppinthe803

Who is applying from NC? Also, who is a first-generation college student?

I just have this super unsettling feeling right now
