PLEASEE CHANCE ME!

i’d definitely appreciate if anyone could do the reach/match/safety kinda thing and if there is anything i can do to improve my chances within the next year. or which school i have the best chance at getting in ED to.

Woops, this probably won’t make a difference but I was in Mu Alpha Theta all 4 years, not just 10-12. (Won’t let me edit anymore)

bump i guess haha.

you might want to consider retaking the SAT. your score is great, but for the top schools it might help to take it again for a better M+CR combo. remember that the score choice option will be available for many of these schools.

you’re in UF easy and probably UNC and Vandy as well. the other schools will probably hinge a lot on essays and recs. you’re a solid candidate, you just have no hooks :O.

haha yah, I’m definitely retaking the SAT’s, CR is just really hard to raise your score significantly (as everyone is aware) and apparently my vocabulary isn’t’ too wide lol.

and i was hoping debate would be somewhat of a hook with nationals and stuff but eh. thanks for your input. :). and it kind of sucks with the rec thing because of my huge class, I do know my guidance counselor on personal terms, but its most likely just a generic rec soo w.e.

anyone else?

you might be right about debate, i honestly don’t know enough about it :P.

that does suck about recs. just try to get two or three teachers who really know and think highly of you (obviously). i don’t think your college counselor rec means as much, especially at such a big school.

haha yah. thanks for helping.

and btw, is it looked upon as worse if i get a rec from a teacher i had in 9th grade, and a teacher in 10th as opposed to 11th.

one of them i had in 9th, but was the sponser of class council for 4 years so she knows me very well and the other is the sponser of key club for 3 years so she knows me very well too.

that’s something you’ll have to decide. in general, most college counselors suggest getting recs from 11th grade academic teachers. ideally, you want someone who can speak to your academic and personal qualities like few other people can.

yah, that would make sense haha.

any one else wanna dabble at the chances?

I think you have a chance at some of those schools. Princeton, Harvard, and Yale are going to be hard. This girl has a similar profile to you: [■■■■■■■■■■■■■ - agonda](http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■.com/profile.php?user=515#profile)

Your summers are pretty weak. Your community service amt/type is nothing special. Test scores are very mediocre. Leadership and ECs seem good. I would say Duke, YPS, Cornell, Dartmouth are all pretty high reaches. But that is the case for most ppl(even the ones who get in). Try to do something amazing this summer. What are you planning to major in?

so because my summers aren’t educationally-focused it’s weak?
i’d consider going to a rigorous 8-week sport camp for 9 years to be pretty impressive, compared to a dumb summer program at a college where you can just simply pay money to go to.

Personally, I don’t think you have to pack your summer with amazing opportunities to be a competetive applicant…are admissions staff really going to say “Hm. Well she has everything we’re looking for, but because she doesn’t travel to Tibet to help orphan children during the summer, she’s a no-go” ?

Haha, I don’t know for sure, but that’s just my opinion…

And just so you know, Princeton doesn’t do Early Decision any more. I think they might still do Early Action, though…?

Duke - reach
Princeton - high reach (this is regardless, u never know with the ivies, they’re weird)
Yale - high reach
Penn - reach (they tend to a little more lenient than princeton, harvard, and yale)
Stanford - reach
Cornell - match
UCLA - match OOS
Vanderbilt - match
Dartmouth - match/reach
UF - safety
UNC - match OOS

good luck!

Qualifying to CFL Nationals is NOT a hook; it is easy. Winning Cat Nats, on the other hand, would be a hook, as would winning NFL Nats. Qualifying for these tournaments means nothing; do well at them, and you have a significant accomplishment.

All of the ivies, in addition to Duke, are reaches for you.

Duke (ED?)- mid reach
Princeton (ED?)-High reach, Princeton no longer has early decision.
Yale- High reach.
Penn- reach
Stanford- High reach
Cornell- match
UCLA- match
Vanderbilt- match
Dartmouth- mid reach
University of Florida- in, probably with money.
UNC-Chapel Hill- In

Just to let you know,
Princeton got rid of their Early Decision option.

haha yah, i found that out after i posted this thread, thanks.

and i have a situation idk if any of you have any experience with such a situation too, but if you do, your help is appreciated.

im a florida resident, which means if i do get into UF (which is very likely, not being cocky or anything, but theres a great chance) i would get in for free because of the bright ftures scholarship.

so say i get into a school such as duke (knock on wood) or princeton (pft), what would you do? go to undergrad for free at UF or go to Princeton/Duke any another place.

Depends on your financial situation. Princeton, and most of the ivies for that matter, has an extremely generous financial aid program: it pretty much covers anything your family can’t afford to pay.

Especially in this economy, its a tough call. I’d bet you’d do fine at either, though. You just have to decide if the brand name is worth the price tag.

personally, id pick a duke or princeton. the best education is worth the cash :P.
