DUKE'S Waitlist

Looks like they have had trouble filling their Engineering school and hence they dipped into the wait list even before May 1 and still at it. Wonder if anyone has been accepted into other Majors of the wait list.

I applied to engineering, but I’m an international applicant. I wonder if they’re still looking into taking some from the international pool or if it’s over now. I honestly have no idea what to expect.

I’m on the waitlist for Trinity. :/

@cahsparent: I’m an international student that was wait listed at Trinity and got in, so it seems that they generally just had trouble filling spots.
@special: I lost hope that I ever was even going to get on the wait list in the first place (acceptance rate for RD international kids was 3-4%, taking those who required financial aid into account), but I did, and then got accepted off the wait list. Stay positive, it’s the best thing to do :slight_smile: From what I’m hearing on the Duke Facebook group, it seems that Duke is still contacting wait list candidates- they would have sent you an e-mail saying their admission process is over if they had already filled their entire class.

@steibca: That’s so nice to hear! I’m trying to stay positive, but hearing all you people get off the list is also making me anxious at the same time. By the way, did you do anything before you got accepted off the wait list (like mailing them stuff, giving them a phone call, etc.)?

@steibca

Congratulations!! You must feel very special! What’s the probability of international students asking for aid getting in through waiting list! :D

@TNVandymom

Congratulations! My son will be applying to Pratt in the fall - ED. Would you mind sharing your son’s GPA, scores so I can guage if my son has a fighting chance? He got a 34 on ACT and 5’s on 3 AP exams. Double Legacy - but his GPA is only a weighted 3.7 - smart kid who needs time management skills when dealing with homework and projects!

@jans1090
My son had a 34 ACT score (1st time he took it) and a 35 superscore (although I don’t remember if Duke superscores). He has a 4.0 unweighted GPA. He goes to a school that doesn’t officially rank and doesn’t have AP classes. He had some EC’s (like Model UN, Quiz Bowl, etc) and attended the TN Governor’s School for Engineering last summer. Good luck to your son!

I got an email from my admissions counselor saying that some other woman had told her some interesting things about my application and wanted to talk to me. I called her later that day and she told me I got in. That was the weirdest worded waitlist email ever. It didn’t even mention the waitlist.

@SeniorOhBoy

Congrats!! That is kind off odd way to notify the acceptance…? haha
What do you think was the interesting thing about your application?
Are you gonna accept the spot?

I actually searched the name of the woman she mentioned in the email and it’s another one of the admissions officers. A couple days before I had called Duke asking about the waitlist decision date and got redirected to who I assume is the woman I mentioned in the email and had a nice conversation with her. That’s probably not why I got accepted but it was an interesting thing to add in the email. For my general app I thought my test scores, GPA, and essays were all very good. Honestly I think I got waitlisted because I’m an Indian going into Engineering. My extracurriculars weren’t anything phenomenal though.

Oh man…today I heard from WUSTL and Rice that their freshman classes are full. :(

No news from Duke anymore?

2 Admits from wait list Sunday night at about 9pm 5/13/2012. Package in mail - decision due next Monday 5/21/2012.

Congrats! I’m kinda confused though. How were they notified at 9pm on sunday though?

By phone. I assume this was the second wave of wait list offers. First round decisions would have been due back last Friday.

Hmm…is this it?

Duke said they are still playing with the numbers. I guess we won’t know for sure until we get the email saying the Class of 2016 has been established.

Wow IvyLeagueSwag. Jealous much? You weren’t waitlisted because of your ethnicity; you were waitlisted because of your application.

"You weren’t waitlisted because of your ethnicity; you were waitlisted because of your application. "

However, it seems to me now you were off the WL mostly because of your ethnicity (or maybe plus your geographic area) but not your application. I feel like they’ve taken more off the wl from the international pool than domestic, not mention the NC pool. Anyone has the same feeling as me?
