will not having math pre req completed by fall hurt my chances at a UC?

I am applying to pretty much every UC this fall for fall 2014. I just completed my English pre req over summer. I haven't taken any math classes yet and I am worried that will look bad when I apply. I am going to be taking algebra this Fall which is a pre req to STATS, the one I need to transfer. In winter or spring I'll be taking STATS, which is the only class I need to complete my GEs at my CCC. I just realized I cant TAG because of this, and now Im thinking thats a bad sign..maybe itll make my application look bad?

is STATS the only math prereq for your major? Btw, what is your major?

Schools you can still TAG to: Davis, Merced, or Santa Cruz. All require math completion by Spring 2014, not Fall 2013! (:

Bhav007 yes all I need is stats my major is poli sci

Littlelion I had no idea I could still tag! Thanks!

It is bad. UC’s look for the Golden Three (Mathematics, English Comp, Critical Thinking). If you have not completed one of those three at selective UC’s like Berkeley and LA by fall - you have an extremely slim chance to being accepted.

Why? It’s the main thing they look at, other than the prereqs, to see of you are prepared.

Ocnative would it look a little better if i took Stats during winter?

I disagree with ocnative. As long as you have your math class done by spring, you should be fine. I remember reading a lot of things saying that if you didn’t have your English or Math classes done by Fall, then you would be denied, and I remember really stressing out about it.
However I took my English class in the spring after I applied and I was still accepted to the schools I applied to. So you should be okay :)

Regardless, the algebra class you are taking this Fall should fulfill the math requirement to transfer, unless it’s one of those pre-algebra, non-transferable classes. Stats is a requirement for your major, not for admission to a school. I don’t think you will have any problems, you will have your math requirements done in time. Not sure if the TAG requires you to have taken a math class already, but if the requirement is that it’s completed by the end of the Fall semester/quarter, your Algebra class should also be good for that. :)

@sonic23 Yes! You should definitely take it as soon as you can - also, have you tried taking it at another nearby college during the fall? If you can, do that!

@Katdawg1 That’s true that sometimes it’s not a hassle for most schools. However, sonic23 wants to apply to all of the UC’s. I’m mostly talking about Berkeley as being the hassle. I went to a recent transfer conference at UC Berkeley - they really stress on completing Math and English and the Prereqs by fall and hoped you used the spring as electives.

@ocnative Oh really??. Yeah I’m just speaking from personal experience so its probably best to listen to what the Berkeley counselors are saying. I got accepted to Berkeley even though I took my English class in the spring. I also didn’t finish all of the prereqs for my major haha.
So either the schools aren’t as strict about those things as they seem or I got very lucky? Not quite sure.

@ocnative You mean the golden 4 for CSU campuses.

You can complete your prerequisite by spring but I know a few people who were denied to UCSB for taking their math requirement in the fall.

I know this link is for TAG but if you scroll down, many UCs want the math and English requirement completed fall.

@Katdawg1 I think it also depends on your major. Congrats on your acceptance though. What’s your major?

@HopingToXfer Yeah they call it the Golden Four at CSU’s (because they include oral communication). But for UC’s they stress on completing your Math, English Comp and Critical Thinking sections not to the last minute.
