Dwight Look School Question

I'm applying to TAMU through the applytexas application.
I'm hoping to submit my online application by August 7th.
Chemical engineering was my first choice major, with mechanical being my second choice major.

My rank is 15/284 (5%)
ACT: 27 composite, with 28 on the math section
I ran cross country and track, and took extra math/science courses, along with having all honors courses and a rigorous schedule. Will graduate my senior year with 24 college hours..
I am for sure going to write essay A and B. Are my chances of getting into the engineering school decent? Do I honestly need to write essay C?
I'm getting a recommendation letter from someone on the George Bush Memorial Library board...
Excluding the recommendation, what are my odds, and is there anything else I should do?

Someone please correct me if I got this wrong. (I was paying more attention to business when I visited the campus.) As I understood it, if you are an auto admit and if you apply early you are pretty much in at the school of your choice.

spectrum2 you still have to qualify for the college even if you are an auto admit. Example, Engineering college has minimum scores for ACT/SAT on Math.
Greg - you have the requirements for engineering - you should be admitted to your choice.
Essay C would be used in a tie breaking situation or if you are wanting scholarships. Why not?

Yes, Klparter, I had forgotten about the math scores for engineering. Do you know if most students in engineering make it though successfully or if there are classes that generally weed out large numbers of students? Can you comment on how extensive the workload tends to be in engineering compared to other majors?

spectrum2. My daughter is in Architecture. My husband and I both are Aggie engineers - but that was 30 years ago… back in our day math was a major weed out. I think it is still the same.

^^^Thanks, my S is considering either engineering or business. He has to make the descision very soon to get the application out early. He is very strong in math but he won’t take calc until this year and he won’t know how he finds this until he has already committed to his choice of major. We’ll see.

So what is the required math score for engineers on the act? So you honestly think I have a good shot? If math is that much of a weed out course I’m thinking of taking calculus that summer at TAMU before fall semester to really master it…

@ Greg Chancellor: Your 28 will get you in.

[ACT/SAT Test Scores](http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/tipsApplying/testScores.aspx)
According to this link 24 ACT or 550 SAT.

Thanks y’all for the help, now I won’t be so stressed about getting in. Does anyone know how long it takes to get accepted on the howdy portal after doing early application?

You’re a Texas resident in the top 10% of your class as was my daughter this time last year. She received a response about 2 weeks after she hit submit.
