EA Decisions

Mhm, true, the accepted students give me hope, but then the rejected students shoot me down again. They ALL seem so good...

Wildcard = def. the essays, short answer, and recs. Will elaborate after my decision is released (so I can adjust my argument accordingly ;)).

yeah, those EA admissions threads kind of depressed me.. most EVERYBODY on there, regardless of accepted/deferred/rejected, was AMAZING.

anyway, i've kind of decided to stop looking at other kids from past years, and just wait until MY decision comes out (after a while of reading and being like.. wow I am not going to get in, lol). hehe, the god of linear algebra (which I referenced in my essay) (I'm actually an atheist, but if there is anything that resembles what most people think of as a god, it's probably linear algebra :) ) knows everybody has different opportunities, life experiences, and personality traits, which are not highly emphasized in the admissions threads, but are very highly emphasized in MIT admissions, according to the Common Data Set. so sigh time to just wait some more.

is it bad that i dont know what the tubes are?

w/e i probably wont ever see one anyhow.

lol. if you figured that you'll never see a tube, you probably know what it is.

^Good one.

Hey, word on the Chicago board is that UChicago decisions are coming out the 14th/15th. Looks like that might be a busy few days for some of us.

Seriously, just watch me be scheduled to work Friday night and Saturday day... that would be my luck. I'll know Saturday when I go in again, and I'll be sure to share whatever scheduling misfortune I get with you guys.

Also, just thinking out loud (or on the computer, whatever), last year they were in selection committee on December 1st, and decisions were released the 9th. Basically, that means that our EA fates are going to be decided any day now.

Not to stress you guys out or anything. ;)

EDIT: For those of you applying to ND, too (not sure how many people fall under that category), EA decisions are going to be mailed the 15th. Is it just me, or do all these places seemed to have gotten their decisions out much earlier this year? With the exception, of course, of MIT.

I dunno, I know some of the Early Decision places are a little bit later than usual (my friend expected Dartmouth out on the 7th but it looks like the 11th or 12th.) Columbia comes out on the 12th, which sucks because that means like 5 of my friends will know before I have any idea. tear

Do you know if they're in selection committee now? You'd think Matt would tell us these things. =P

I think in a blog somewhere it said selection committee starts on the 7th.. I forget where I read that....

Okay, ALL the Ivies (with the obvious exception of Harvard and Princeton, and the possible exception of Cornell) have announced decision release dates of the 14th or earlier. It's not supposed to work this way! MIT's is supposed to come out earlier! gets antsy, irritated, sad, you name it. =P

decides to boycott schoolwork until decisions come out

i expect/wish MIT to go into selection committee either tomorrow or on friday. add 8 to that, we should get the weekend of 15! i know, im soooo good at math.
i think im playing volleyball on that saturday morning and then going out to lunch with the girls (i haven't found a single guy plays volleyball down in the deep south, sadly). i may have to call my mom to let her get onto MIT's site and check for me.

Haha, you're only starting to boycott school work?

My Calc homework is sitting in front of me right now. There's one problem that I'm just barely off on (seriously, as in, the answer the book gives, but part of it is over 4... and the worse part is, I know what I'm doing, and can't figure out what I've done wrong. grumble grumble). I actually have been mildly productive tonight. Mildly, as in, this is done, but I haven't done anything else. Then again, I didn't get home until 7:30, and then "The Day After Tomorrow" was on, so I claim that as my excuse.

And tong, you play volleyball? That's awesome.

I'm also not allowed to post this until 60 seconds have passed from my last one. Stupid computers.

I don't have that much homework to boycott, but I do have a lot of college applications left to do (like 4+ essays write). Yes, I know, it's late, and I'm horrible for procrastinating, but...

I can't help but hold on to that tiny, tiny shred of hope that I'll get in EA to MIT. I know the chances for that are minuscule but I can't help but hope.

The whole not-releasing-the-date thing is driving me UP THE WALL. Right now, I'm just going to assume its the 15th, because it really doesn't look like it'll be any earlier than that. And if it's later than the 15th... I'm going to go crazy.

Please see my last blog post in case you need proof that I need to pick up a hobby before decisions go out or I am literally going to waste away in front of the computer. shmor's Xanga Site

Seriously.

Heh, see, my sister and I got our Hanukkah present tonight: a Wii. So, basically, any boycotting I did prior to this pales in comparison to the boycotting I will be doing once I figure out how to set this darn thing up. ("Dad, I've been trying for hours. Why isn't it working?" "...it's not plugged in. And this is the girl who wants to get into MIT." =P)

(Okay, so that didn't actually happen, but it's totally something I would do.)

Haha, that totally sounds like my house.

Hmm, why isn't my straightener working? Oh, I forgot to turn it on.

The sad thing is that has actually happened more than once. I'll be getting ready to go out, and be like, why isn't this thing working? Oh, right, gotta turn it on...

Haha, I need a hobby too. My days are like this now:

Get up
School
Track practice
Homework but not really
checking CollegeConfidential and the MIT blogs over and over and over again
Mom yells at me to go to bed

woo, the only motivation left for me right now is reading A Beautiful Mind. I bought it on Half.com for 88 cents and decided to employ myself at such a mathematical book while waiting for MIT decision. if i read too fast and finish it this weekend, however, i will be totally out of any pursuit in life whatsoever.

lol, the only thing that's got me miffed is the indenting on the first paragraph on my essay. WHY COULDNT IT INDENT?!!!

....

nah, I'm gonna be calm and composed for the next week.
