I got invited into the honors college, but did not receive an word of a scholarship. Where can I find scholarship info?
Also, how likely am I to receive a scholarship, and how much?
My stats: 1500 SAT, 97 GPA, good ECs, decent essays, applied for college of engineering.
Has anyone received their admissions packet yet? I got an email on March 5 saying it would be mailed soon, but nothing yet!
@Whosthatgirl365 Nope - still waiting
Weāre IS still didnāt received yet. My DD applied ED and differed to EA. Now she got the admission to GE. We Love to see the admission package. She didnāt even receive any email about the package. Anyway she already paid the matriculation fee (deposit).
No package yet
Last year it took a couple weeks for all of the welcome letters to arrive. You donāt need to wait on that to accept your offer though.
My son has accepted VT and done everything with no packet.
He got accepted to JMU about a month prior - and the JMU packet didnāt come for about 3 weeks.
Fin aid email came now. Unfortunately I didnāt get any scholarships. Even the loan is unsubsidized for $5500. Darn VT. OOS
@cshigh same here. We are also OOS although several of my sons friends got small amounts of money ($950 - $1900 per semester). Too be honest i am not sure what more he could have done to get merit money other than a perfect SAT score!! Unfortunately we live in NJ and he was not interested in any of the State schools Engineering programs so its Private or OOS or us.
@victor77 my sons stats were about the same 1510 SAT (790 math) 33 ACT 5.78 weighted GPA, Eagle scout, 5 AP classes and he received $0 scholarships for GE.
Iām technically OOS but somehow they granted me In-state and $690/year after I emailed them regarding my situation since I used to live in VA until this past August.
My stats arenāt nearly as good as your sons @collsander. He is clearly a hard-working student! Mine are 1390 SAT, 4.34 weighted gpa
@pungie2000 congratulations I am happy someone gets good news. Funny thing is I grew up in Bkacksburg, my sisters still live there (as do other family members) many of my cousins are VT grads and I even have a relative who is part of the VT administration but that doesnāt help. LOL. VT was my sons 1st choice but now he is eating to see what he gets from N.C. state beofre finalizing his decision.
@collsander - ? 5.78 weighted GPA with only 5 AP classes none the less - there is some serious GPA inflation going on at that high school.
@cbl1 i agree with that. His non weighted GPA is 3.58 The weighted GPA was a typo itnis actually 5.28 and I stand corrected by my son he actually has 6 AP classes. His other classes were all honors which many qualify as dual enrollment and they are given a higher weight as well.
That still some heavy gpa inflation. Thatās why colleges donāt use GPA but assign their own point system based on actual classes and grade. For example: A+ in dual enrollment classes are max 5.0 in our system.
All of this further proves that comparing accepted/denied/wait list stats on CC from less than 1% of a total application pool and then trying to accurately predict if someone will be accepted is unreliable.
FWIW, a grade scale thatās not based on a traditional 4.0 scale is not in and of itself grade inflation. You would need to be able to show that the student was given leniency of some sort, or if the school had changed their more in depth grading system (e.g. - 5 years ago an āAā was a test score of 94-100, but this year the school expanded an āAā to be 90-100).
Received my welcome package in the mail! Looks great to get a real congratulations
No packet in Atlanta yet.
Got packet today
