Help! DD has paid matriculation deposit and signed the housing and dining contracts. Where does she go to find the VT forum for roommate searches? We can’t seem to find it.
@Gottwins there is one on Facebook called Virginia Tech Class of 2023 and one on Instagram called vt_2023
Hope that helps! There is also a parents page called Virginia Tech Parents that has all kinds of great info and chatter back and forth about any and all sorts of questions.
Any word on Honors College decisions being released today?
The posted date is March 15. VT is not big on ‘earlier than announced’ releases.
But there’s always a chance.
HA, I spent the whole day thinking today was the 15th, lol. Thanks
Once you have deleted your guest account and set up your HokieSpa account, where do you go to see your application status? Like information on the word ‘invited’ for honors college, or any of the information that was on the guest account page? DD can access financial aid information, but cannot find anything else that pertained to that guest account. Where does she need to look tomorrow for an honors college decision?
My sons guest account is still active - I don’t know that you delete it.
@cbl1 Thank you. I will have her contact the office in the morning and request a new link to open a new one. She deleted it when we paid her matriculation fee and she set up her VA Tech student accounts.
I didn’t know there was a way to delete
@cbl1 It is actually scary how easy it was. 3 clicks and it was gone. She thought that since she opened her student account she would no longer need the guest account. She was able to open a new guest account my requesting a new link be sent. It took less then 5 minutes to open the new guest account.
Honors invite for EA - has anyone’s status changed today? Will the footnote “…the word “invited” will be reflected in the box above” from the admission status page be removed after all invites are done. This is for my son heading to business school.
FYI as I posted in another thread. We called Honors College this week and asked very clearly, have all honors notifications, for both EA and RD, gone out already? They said YES. If you haven’t already received an honors invitation, then you are not invited to honors. Now I know other people were told something else, so who knows. However, I thought I would post here if it helps people adjust their expectations.
Surprised by no honors invite. I am assuming we would have been notified if invited by now. That along with very little money offered, VT hasn’t done much to entice my high achiever. VT may now be off the list.
@divol19, same thing happened to my high achiever. Even with a “holistic” review, she’s incredibly well rounded and should have easily received an invite. VT was in her top two, but between that and the lack of merit aid for an OOS student with Ivy League-range grades and test scores, they dropped out of consideration. She committed to a college where her hard work and achievements are appreciated. So disappointed with the VT experience.
@kmnmom Same here. Similar student/stats. I’m sure they have their reasons for their policy/decisions, but so bummed it didn’t work out. Honors program and a little merit, and we would be planning our visit.
@anomy27, So sorry to hear your child suffered the same fate, and that’s exactly what we thought - even a few thousand dollars of merit and an honors invite would have kept VT in contention, even though she received many more generous offers (including one full scholarship). She liked it that much and is serious enough about education that we would have made the investment. Unfortunately, she does not fit the profile of the student Tim Sands has clearly stated he wants to attract, so there was no interest in her unless we were willing to be full pay. I did call the admissions office to let them know they are on a slippery slope; their response was to wish my daughter well at the college she will be attending.
My personal opinion. Freshman year is big transition and we didn’t apply for honors college. I would rather my son get accustomed to the school and classes then if wants honors sounds like as long as get 3.6 or higher you can get in for sophomore if really feel need.
@cbl1, definitely agree with you on that and not sure my daughter would have participated since other posters have indicated the learning communities are a better option at VT. But as hard as she’s worked in school, it would have been nice to be asked.
I agree whole heartedly with the opinions stated above. As I have said before I am I blacksburg native now living in NJ. My high achieving son really wanted to go to Tech since I still have family who live in Blacksburg, graduated from VT, or work for the university but with no honors invite and no merit aid and the reality of paying full price to attend he is leaning toward other engineering programs that make him feel wanted.
Like many other popular schools, VT doesn’t really need to offer any tuition assistance to fill their freshman class. Record number of applicants again, despite revamped admissions process. They are counting on full-cost OOS students to help their bottom line.
