No one else, huh? It's getting lonely. To the newly admitted, current, and former students, is there any insight you can offer on financial aid at GS? Do they send an initial offer with one's admissions packet? I am dying to know if I can afford to attend. I've dug around on this site and elsewhere, but I'm still not clear on what to expect, (or perhaps I just don't like what I've read so far).

nothing yet, nothing yet.

Aneece,

I know it's not what you want to hear, but FinAid is really bad. Read my previous posts, they'll tell you how much you should expect. Actually, might get a little more now (about 1k per year) than the figures I provided back then.

I met with the head of financial aid at GS and he suggested I 'go to school part time for a few years and then take out private loans (30k+) during the last year if I wanted to finish in a timely manner with 'little' debt.' Yeah, like I have 7 years to burn getting a BA.

If you're banking on GS aid and are an out of state student (ie, without a job or cheap place to stay), you WILL have to take out private loans, in addition to federal ones, if you want to study full-time.

My FedEx arrived today! Anyone else?

THEY CALLED ME THIS AFTERNOON!!!!!! I'm in too! I feel such a high....

Cool. Congrats!

i still haven't heard one way or the other... the wait is killing me!
did anyone else receive their package?
columbiagirl, did you have any FA info included...?

I received my package too, and I've not yet received a scholarship offer. They told me they will begin to determine aid for new students next week. I've been listlessly searching for a private scholarship to make attending Columbia possible. Are there any scholarships out there for a white man in his late twenties who's transferring from a community college? I don't think I'm what wealthy old people have in mind when they set up scholarships to mitigate all the crimes they committed while accruing their fortunes.

I am attending a GS information session this Saturday, and taking the GS admission exam on Sunday. Any suggestions on how to make the most of these two events?

There was FASFA and Sallie Mae info included. Also, advice on outide aid and a suggestion to meet with their student financial planners was included with the package.

es four - good luck with the exam! unfortunately, i don't have any suggestions for you because i took the SATs.

Took the test today, it seemed fairly simple. I will follow up the week after next to see how I did.

I also learned that, despite my first semester of college grades being released 15 days after the June 1st deadline, I can apply for admission this Fall, 2008. Wish me luck everyone, I hope to see you all there in the Fall!!!

es four

Hi everyone,

I got a call on Apr 7 that I was accepted. I was just wondering if anyone has heard about scholarships- I thought we were supposed to hear within 2 weeks?

yayyyy just got the phone call today! three weeks later than most of you :)

How exciting citymiddle! I think everyone that participated in this thread got accepted.

Which academic planning session is everyone planning on attending? Is it advantageous to go earlier?

i haven't gotten a packet yet (since i just got the call) and i am waiting to hear about aid before i make the final decision, so i don't know which session yet. i REALLY want to be able to make ends meet for columbia.
hopefully we'll hear about institutional scholarships soon.

I called to ask when scholarship info would be sent, and I was told that we wouldn't hear until end of next week, but that we didn't have to send in our acceptance/defer/decline until we hear about scholarship info even though our packets says 2 weeks - did anyone hear something similar?

Does anyone know how much emphasis is put on the GSAE when evaluating an applicant?

I took the GSAE last weekend and just called to get my results.

How important is the GSAE?

i got my fedex today. did anyone else get selected for financial verification? i have the forms but i am not sure where i should send them-- it isn't entirely clear. also, wondering if anyone has heard about gs scholarships yet?

I'm still waiting for my GS scholarships. Is anyone going to hold off on the deposit before they receive the scholarship info?
