Hi micahopeful, Keep your chin up! Everything happens for a reason and you will land where you’re supposed to be. Have you applied to other schools? I hope you get good news soon!

Dear micahopeful:
You, and everyone else, must remember that nothing is set in stone until you have that acceptance letter. It is not all that unusual to be asked to apply early decision and then not get into a school. You are not alone and yes, it has always seemed to me like they get kids hopes up and some schools even give applicants the impression that it’s kind of a done deal and then they don’t make it. It’s a good caution to everyone. But also remember that this is really just school and while you had your hopes set on Mica this just means that you are supposed to take a different path that will be the better one for you. None of these schools are the end all, be all, they are schools, just that, your life is what you choose to make of it.

Ditto what colcon and artsmarts said: I’ve always been a firm believer of what some call fate, others some call divine intervention. I just say things happen for a reason, and often we can’t see how this disappointment can translate into a good thing while we are in the midst of it. No school is the be-all and end-all. Each school has its good and bad points, and it’s up to you to make the best of out where you land. Hopefully you have applied to other schools and will be accepted to at least your #2 choice.

Micahopeful- I suspect that you could call or email MICA and ask them about this. If you are polite, they may give you useful feedback. There is nothing to lose in doing this. Good luck to you. I am sorry this happened. I agree that it was unkind to be over-encouraging and then not accept you.

micahopeful - was your portfolio accepted at a NPD?

Daughter just received her MICA acceptance in the mail today and we are in Texas. They were mailed 2/4 (I called). And if you call to talk to your assigned counselor, they can probably help.

Anyone know about an accepted students day?

I don’t remember there being an accepted students day last year (haven’t check about this year though). You could show up anytime if you wish. My D did that last year, and was allowed to sit in on classes, talk to professors, students, etc. She did call in advance, but I think that’s all it takes.

Their spring break is from March 14 - 18, so avoid that week.

my son was accepted to MICA last year, and he simply called in and asked if he could come visit. It wasnt very formal, but he had already had a tour before, and he went to the admissions office and got a schedule of classes and went and sat in on some, talked to students, and professors. Of course it was easy for him, because he just took the train up from DC. For what it was worth, he was very impressed at the time, and it was extremely difficult for him to decide between MICA and Cooper.

Goodschool, have you looked into MICA’s 4/3 Open House? You probably received a flyer in the last month titled Visit MICA - Special Programs for High School Seniors.

Yes, thank you - that is what I am aiming for. Will you and your daughter being going then?

Goodschool - We won’t be going 4/3. We did a visit day to MICA in October and did a tour of campus, dorms, etc. Spent a long weekend in the Baltimore/DC area, ate crab cakes, walked along the inner harbor and generally enjoyed being close to water. Very relaxing and the school clicked with my daughter. She did summer session at MCAD and was ready to sign up there after, so it will be a tough call. If you can get to the schools that have accepted you, definitely visit. Part of the visiting is to see just how hard it is to get there and get around.
